What do you think of this?

OUCH!

This is from a texas LS1 that had what sounds like to be a similar set-up to yours, Heads, cam, headers, etc LS1. Reputed to put 450hp to the wheels.

he was a roadracer and spent far more time on the gas in the long straight aways with less cooling periods...as well, more opportunities to starve the oil in long turns...

but they figured the problem stemmed partly from too much heat. The failure occured reving ~ 7000rpm during a road race. Notice how the wrist pin seems to have pulled from the piston. :wooo

What would be your guess?

Yeah that rod/pistolie combo are Fubared :rolf

I can buy the fact that sustained high speed runs at 7K would certainly do that.

Its always running on borrowed time but mine only sees 7K for a breif moment and then is back down to 5800 but it sees 7K 3 times in 11 seconds though :confused

It must have had a moto-man break in, i see 0 blow by and carbon build up past the top rings.

how can you tell that from that pic?

Well part of my everday job is engine failure analysis of small engines, big engines exhibits the same failure traits as well.

But if you look at the skirt and ring land section of the whole piston there yet you will see no brown build up on those areas, nice and bright alluminum yet, this same piston has a chunk of rod left on it yet that broke extremely high. when they break high its indicative of a overspeed failure.

I think it is cool that you could figure that out.
