I was behind this bronze colored Studebaker license plate 60 HAWK on the way home from work on 124th and say North Ave. Had fatter tires, old school mag wheel, looked like air shocks in the back and sounded great. Weird, but very cool in a weird way. Not often you see a car with fins jacked up and sounding like that.

Anyone ever see this thing?

oh yeah...the golden hawk's could be had with a 289 supercharged v8 and were among the top performing cars of it's time.

Studebaker's, though arguably homely looking cars, were always strong performers...I made a point in another thread a while back ago on how they were the first to shove a v8 under the hood of a compact auto w/ the lark...and configured as such, it was a very strong performer...keeping pace with many of the big v8 cars including the 300F of the era (late 50's)...whereas a strong performing compact back then was 0-60 in under 11 seconds, these were high 7's....

Studebaker was always ahead of it's time, which was ultimately it's downfall. They were making "muscle cars" before the muscle car era... and making economical cars before the gas crunch when everyone wanted big motors and deluxe interiors.

Hell if I know. :rolf Not exactly a car I know anything about. But based on that reply I'd say that was it.

Kinda cool IMO. Different.

In their original form with gawdy chrome, etc, I agree...very hard on the eye's. There have been one or two I've seen where it's dechromed, updated looks that have looked sharp.

Of course, always a fan of the starliner's look (custom or stock):
