My dad was hit head on while riding his motorcycle to work and has sever brain trauma as a result.Initial reports say his body was found 175ft away from impact with a crushed helmut still on. The driver fled the scene but was nice enough to call the cops. I am flying out around 6am to NJ to see him. Please say a prayer for my dad. This sh!t really sucks.Thanks.

Thank you all for the kind words and prayers. They helped out alot!!

My dad is home now and starting to recover from his bodily injuries. Someone was looking out for him because there were way too many things that could have gone wrong for him. I was able to speak with the cop that actually witnessed the entire accident so I finally got the real story. Apparently, a woman couldnt decide if she wanted to pull into the first or second entrance into a gas station and did this while my dad was traveling 35-50mph heading towards her. At the last minute she stopped in his lane right in front of him. He locked up the brakes and the back end came out and he dumped the bike. His skid marks were 165ft on pavement and the bike slid 140ft. Could have been all road rash(both arms and hands and his leg were completely skinned) but because she was in his lane, he hit her car head on with his helmut causing the brain trauma and hemoraging. 7 days later, he has no memory what so ever and needs to be reminded every 4 hours to a day as to why he is hurt and what happened (If you saw 50 first dates...exactly like that!). The first couple of days that he could walk he was wandering around the floors of the hospital and then at home I found him wandering around lost in his own house. Very scary thing to see for all of us as he appears to have aged 20 years in a single day. I went there expecting to see all sorts of broken bones and such but the broken memory is far a worse sight to see.

As of now, he gets brain scans every other day to monitor the bleeding on his brain as surgery must be the absolute last ditch effort if he ever wants to remember anything again. The doctors say that the brain can reabsorb the blood in time so for now we can only wait and pray.

All things considered your dad is fortunate...It sounds like most of his coordination and speech is still there. It sounds like he's having retrograde amnesia....is he able to remember years back, names and faces?

But I am relieved your dad was able to pull through.

My father had major head trauma at his work. He went into the the ER the doctors told my mom that he would not make it. Well he pulled through. It took 4 weeks for him to remember he had a family, over the next 2 years he started getting his old memories back, and to this day has some short term memory loss. The injury was caused by a two ton boiler falling on the left side of his head putting him through a cinderbrick wall. A failed safety strap was the culprit. You could never tell he had this accident now, but it took YEARS for him to return to "normal." Brain injuries are the scariest, their effects are not always obvious. Give your father time, the brain has an innate ability to heal itself, such to the point, that modern medicine cannot predict what your father will be capable of. Good luck and god bless...

Thanks for the conitnued prayers and thoughts. As of today he is being admitted into a rehab clinic because he can no longer be without 24 hour supervision. He has left the house several times wandering with no clue where he was going or why. Luckily family members found him but just yesterday it took over 3 hours to find him. I guess the worst part for me is that he is so far away and there isnt a thing I can do to help him from here. :puppyeyes
