Seriously, 20 cents overnight... WTF???

This is absolutely absurd, I know that I have to pay it and I will, but this is just stupid...

You don't "have to pay it." You can simply choose not to buy it if you think that gas isn't worth what they are asking. Then you wouldn't be "paying it."

Supposedly some gas pipeline somewhere in Illinois developed a leak and the EPA ordered it shut down until repaired. That was yesterday, when I got up this morning, bam gas prices skyrocketed

I noticed that even with all the oil spilling out into the gulf, it didn't seem to affect gas prices all that much

I doubt this pipeline really affected anything, they're just looking for a way to make more $$$.

Not only that but the gas they already have didn't cost them any more just because something happened in IL yesterday. It is bullshit how gas prices work, going up with the "threat" of something happening.

If I buy 50 gallons of gas today at $2.75/gal, and tomorrow gas prices go up to $3.75/gal... those 50 gallons I already had still only cost me $2.75/gal... so how the hell can I get off trying to sell it for $3.75 until I actually buy some at the higher price?

because the oil in the gulf was in the gulf, typicaly doesn't get processed for gasoline in the midwest.

We'll considering that pipe transports oil from Superior Wisconsin to refineries in Indiana for distribution FOR the midwest, yea it probably did matter.

Or.... they're just tearing a hole in the middle of a Chicago suburb, ripping out a piece of leaking pipe, putting people on the clock on overtime to get it done quickly just to make another.... let's see 20 cents per gallon x an average of 15 gallons a fillup, heck lets say 20 gallons, yep another $4 bucks. Yep it's all a big scam to get your $4 bucks.

They have us by the nuts so bad that if they wanted to screw us, they would be able to get far more than $4 sadly. F them:flipoff2: but we should understand what happens.

Sorry I just get pissed when people bitch about gas prices. Just be glad you don't live in most parts of Europe.

I know that everyone uses this excuse but here in the US we are much more dependent on our personal modes of transportation. This whole idea of a national network of high speed rail is all an effort to make us more like Europe, however we will not be Europe and are not Europe. You cannot use the price of gas in other countries in comparison to our own situation... its like comparing apples and oranges.

This is true, especially in the case of Caracas, Venezuela. That fuel in Caracas is heavily subsidized as the Caracans are car (crazy) dependent like us. Go outside Caracas and the fuel is much much higher in outlying regions of Venezuela.
