Okay, I'm one for a tastefully done car, maybe even a little wild. But WFT (x3) is up with the new fad of making cars from popular food and or main stream products? Indirectly advertising. So far I've seen with my own eyes, Skittles car, Pringles Cheese, Lucky Charms (green), and googled the fad to find one with Facebook! First off its not cool, and second off your not even getting paid for advertising these products... :chair: Rant over.

those are for car wraps, that can easily be removed. I think the op was referring to the donks being painted the colors and schemes of the products.

I know about the Donks, and the Donk style. This is newer, and beyond original Donks, which must be overdone and played out, hence this next generation.

My friend lives in Atlanta and they've been doing this (using brands) for years (if I recall first time he told me this was 6 years ago)...and it's still called Donks.

I've actually been kicking around this kind of idea in a scaled back, more tasteful manner. The Delorean is a people magnet, and the idea of having someone else pay for some of it's upkeep and upgrades appeals to me. In fact, it was used at a sponsor's booth at a charity event in 'Tosa earlier this summer to great success, so a rolling form of (tasteful) advertising could work as well, such as a rear (engine bay) window cling featuring a business or product. And of course, I'd prefer to work something out with a local business as opposed to what these Donk goofs are doing to their cars for the national brands. Maybe I'll seriously look into setting something up this winter for next year, who knows.

I never said it wasn't called Donks, I don't give two shits what its called, it just sprung up here in the last couple years in bumfuck north carolina, and its still ridiculous.

The urge to be that much different I guess. I've seen a mid 90's Caprice with a scrubbing bubbles paint job. It didn't look horrible, but why?

IMOHO....

I call this being a wolf in sheeps clothing... Call it what you want but if these cars were made with heavy tint and dark colors then it would look gangsta' and or suspicious where it would attract more attention from the athorities thus it is more likely to be pulled over for possible narcotics based possibly on profiling of sorts. But slap on some loud clown car type paint and graphics with well known brands... Then it looks more harmless and goofy enough where all law enforcement will do is shake their heads and laugh at it. (just like some of us do) Never even thinking twice about what's on the inside.

In addition... What better way to attract the attention of younger teens. The element of "stranger danger" or the friendly stranger in the black sedan so to speak is camoflaged with all the hype but it still doesn't change the fact of who may be occupying these cars. The thought that came to mind when I saw the face book pic was the photo of the old van with "free candy" written on the side in spray paint.

I'm not trying to offend anyone... It's just that I see these cars and it strikes me this way. "wolf in sheeps clothing and/or preditory sense."

Interesting but think about it... If you see a plain white van with dark windows you would keep your distance or be suspicious... Add some goofy stickers or advertisemsnts the threat factor goes away. "because it looks funny or harmless."

Haha, no BTTF just helps with its recognition and appeal. I'm looking to capitalize on that by adding a modest sized advertisement for preferably a local business on my very high profile car. Like I said, it's successfully worked once already sitting stationary at an event; now I'm just looking to take that success on the road, literally.

I was thinking more like listening to Art Bell. This has nothing to do with trying to be conspicuous, it's just another example of something drug dealers did/do to flaunt their wealth, trickling down and becoming the fashionable to do in the black community. If they wanted to give a harmless appearance they would drive licensed and insured, minivans without tinted windows, and factory radios.

Yea, I was thinking the same thing. Wouldn't that bring more attention to you? As funny and ridiculous it might look, you can still tell it took a lot of cash to make it.

But then how would the kids wanting to buy drugs, know that it's the guys that are selling?

jakedrew
09-06-2010, 08:04 PM
but have one of these kids get busted with the drugs they bought ,tell the cops where they got the stuff...It would be pretty easy to find " the facebook car"

I dont think it has to do with a wolf in sheeps clothing at all. Just a bunch of people with too much $ and time. But... them cars dont look half as$'d together.

Arigmaster
09-06-2010, 08:05 PM
No, I don't go to church much anymore... Special occasions and specific holidays at best now days. I am not saying any of these car owners are drug dealers but I am also not saying they arent either. What I am eluding to is called "hiding in plain sight." In an effect becoming known or more approachable.

In reference to Wikkid's question... Imagine using the term "skittles" or "McDonald's" in place of narcotic "X" or a specified location in casual conversation. Again, this is only a theory. Maybe just like any hot rodder slowly piecing together a given car these cars are the same situation but a different car culture. (low riders are the same but a different car culture too)

I say to each their own but still wanted to throw that twist in there for consideration and/or awareness.

GHOSST
09-06-2010, 09:45 PM
Low riders have a unique design that they have capitalized as their own really. And you can tell low riders take waaaaaaay more pride and do most of the work themselves. Tis a twist indeed! Like CSI or Bones... or whatever. .
