By far the best time of the year.

An interesting link with experts' picks for this year.

Ohio State will once again take the B10 title. Someone will eventually stop their reign but I don't see it happening this year. Badgers have a good team with high preseason ranks (2nd or 3rd in B10 depending on who you ask) but they usually underachieve when this happens. Offense should not have any problems moving the ball. Main concern is on defense (secondary always scares me and D-line looks average).

I know there are probably only a few other college football fans on here but it's worth a shot.

Games start Thursday night!
Monday night has one of the best opening week games in a long time: Boise State (3) vs. Virginia Tech (10).

I like college a little bit more than the NFL, same with hoops (ok, in basketball, alot more). Badgers should be pretty good and I've also been a Gator fan since I was 11. Almost too easy rooting for them especially lately but it won't stop me.

Nah, NOTHING matches the atmosphere of a college football game.

Nah, NOTHING matches the atmosphere of a college football game.
You are right...I worked for Northwestern, and whether we were playing 1AA opponents or big ten conference games, it was pretty intense and exciting...and keep in mind, this was ryan field; the sleepiest place in big ten football.

BUT, HS football seems even more pure...the kids are just that, kids. The kids on the team are more accessible and the are every day buddies and friends with the kids in the stands. Much more tight knit.

Is it as raucous an atmosphere? Oh no.

Are the athletes on the field as good? HELL NO...though we've had kids go on to D1 schools, so it's fun to watch such a huge disparity in ability...it seems as if these kids can just about do anything at anytime...that's rare to see in college, even among NFL prospects.

I've been affiliated with both, and my preferences are with the HS game...I know I'm in the minority, but hey, to each their own.

to each their own.

x2. People will say NFL is better than college. I would say yes they are more skilled and overall better athletes/football players. But college is that perfect mix of speed and talent but they often lack discipline which leads to exciting plays. Stadiums are louder, student sections, fight songs, alumni. Watch Texas/Texas Tech from a couple years ago and try to find an NFL game that tops that atmosphere. You can't. Thousands of drunk kids screaming their faces off for 2 hours.

I always like to say NFL players play for the name on the back while college players play for the name on the front.

I will always remember where I was for these plays.

It's ok, Florida won the Nat'l title so it was almost easy to forget that loss :) . I'd have to go look and see when the last time Florida was able to host a night game, at least with any implications or a rivalry. HS football and athletics in general is cool, even more "pure" than college, but it's like watching the WNBA vs NBA. At least in college, especially the good schools, the skill level isn't that far off and like in basketball there is more creativity in the play/coaching styles and rivalries that actually mean something. Bears/Packers is great and historic but the intensity between the fans and players can't hold a stick to probably a dozen or more NCAA rivalries. Same with alot of other NFL rivalries.
