Okay, okay...I'm in for it, and I deserve it...have all the laughs you want.

I WILL explain my reasoning in a later post...but might as well get the ridicule out of the way now.

Understand, my wife explicitly said she would divorce me if I did this too:

I BOUGHT A JEEP COMPASS

rationale to follow...but enjoy!

why is that a bad thing. They have huge room, cheap, and you are a mopar guy so it fits. Definitely better than some of the other options out there.

Was this what you PM'd me about?

The Compass is the more homosexually-inclined version of the Caliber/Compass. And it's the only Jeep more embarrassing than the Liberty. Congratulations.

No, really. It's better than buying an Outlander anyway.

Was this what you PM'd me about? In part it was...it was one of the options I considered, and while many of the other vehicles I looked at moved only a very little on the price, Havill moved quite a bit down. I told them what others were doing price wise, one of whom actually moved right around 2G less than the "sale price" and they actually came out and beat the figure you gave without an initial offer from me.

thanks MIGHTILY for the help too!

Actually, this might be an interesting race...

Had to google image it, was unsure of what they looked like :)This is much better looking than mine...but seeing that aftermarket fix for the ugly, I might have to make an investment in the looks dept :thumbsup

The Compass is the more homosexually-inclined version of the Caliper/Compass. Well, I'm not sure what makes a car "homosexually-inclined" other than say a dildo for a seat, or something like that, but, okay?

Basically w/ this compass it's as Crawlin' alludes to...it's actually a roomy, spacious amll car/crossover that was very low mileage and very inexpensive. Brand new in '07, this car would have stickered around 25G for this pretty much fully loaded 4x4 sport version, I picked it up w/ only 35,000 miles for just over 12 out the door (It was 17,995 on the sticker, internet/sales price of 14,667). Nothing with the options and miles even came close in price.

It's a 4x4, 5 speed combo...a little hard to find, but worth the effort. The CVT versions of these are dreadfully slow.

In terms of performance, the most generous term is 'not horrid'...it's okay quick with the very short gearing. What I've like best is the terrific mileage I get w/ the 5 speed...going down to chicago and back I averaged 31.5mpg! Not too shabby for something that you can "lock" the electronic diff for 50-50 front rear power split for excellent traction in the snow.

The 31.5mpg was my best tank yet...otherwise, I tend to average right around 28mpg in mixed city/hwy driving...this is better than the 23/27mpg it's rated for.

Otherwise, it's quiet, comfortable, very solid and rattle free.

Most of the comparable cars were typically 5-7G more (even high mileage examples were significantly more costly), and Patriots (it's mechanical twin) were usually 3-4G more for similar options and more miles.

What cracks me up is my wife's conversion on the car...when she heard I looked at one, she really did (but jokingly) said she divorce me for getting one...but now that I've got it, she wants to make it her DD.

We are looking at those for the wife, I think they are butt ugly but great fuel mileage and spacious as hell. You knocked a bunch off the sticker, if we could find one for that kinda money we would have bought one by now.

I looked at the Compass and Patriot when they first came out. Performance was acceptable with the 2.4 & manual. Roomy inside for the size of the vehicle, but the interior seemed cheap to me. I've read that they made some improvements in that regard.
It seemed like a good idea for Jeep. A lot of women were/are driving Libertys, the Compass was an attempt to get get those with less cash to buy Jeep.
I suppose it sounds like I'm calling the Compass a chick car, but I'm not really. The Patriot is mechanically identical, and optioned oddly, but has traditional Jeep styling for those who want it. I view the Compass as a Jeep with slightly updated styling.
I don't think anything else offers the same combination of MPG, towing ability, and 4x4 (but as always, I could be wrong).

A couple things to look for on Compass' would be balljoints are common, tierods and those cars tend to be squeak/rattle traps. Also, the "4wd" isnt the best, a good set of tires will help thru heavy snow. If you have any questions or problems, feel free to shoot me a PM.

Remember that Oprah episode where she gave away a bunch of Pontiac G6s? Remember how depressed you felt when you heard about it? Think about that feeling, then eat an entire container of pistachio Häagen-Dazs while watching the Mandy Moore flick A Walk To Remember. You have now driven a Jeep Compass.:rolf:rolf:rolf
