actually I'm surprised, though many cars don't have manuals, that they don't include "resting your foot on the clutch pedal while driving" and "leaving a manual trans car in neutral while at a red light"

I've always felt it's not good for the clutch to be depressed that long (20+ seconds). I'm guessing it wears out the clutch a lot faster than just putting it in neutral and not having your clutch engaged.

it's hard on the throwout bearing.

Small edit here. You don't mean "leaving a manual trans car in neutral while at a red light". You mean "keeping the clutch petal depressed while at a red light"

Leaving the car in neutral is actually the correct thing to do.

EDIT: And lol at #10 on the list :P

it's hard on the throwout bearing.

As well as the clutch (it most likely still drags a tiny bit even when disengaged), and the hydraulic system or cable - particularly if you have an aftermarket clutch.

Also, if something surprising happens like you get rear ended, you spill something in your lap, whatever you have the chance that your foot will slip off the clutch pedal sending you forward.

I know that in race applications, leaving the car in gear and waiting with the clutch down can do damage ( I watched a Jaguar ruin his raceday by doing this). In a street application, I would think the clutch system would be able to take 30-45seconds of "clutch in" time without being seriously damaged.

It wouldn't seriously damage the clutch, but if done multiple times a day, I think it would wear out the clutch noticeably faster versus one that is left in neutral every time.

I like to keep it in 1st gear at a stop. I would feel weird putting it in Neutral and not having my clutch foot in.
