I imagine I will post more pictures than text about this little project, so here is the start of it. I'll update as I slowly make progress - keyword slowly. I already got distracted when the UPS guy delivered my 300+ wedding photos that I wanted to put in a few photo albums.

I have a lot to install yet - FPR, better fuel pump, modified oil pan, modified fuel rails, bigger injectors, etc. But it's a start!

There's a Blackhawk event in September with the NW Shelby Club that's really tempting, but I don't know if there will be enough miles on the setup at that point. Luckily, we have another SHO that's track ready if we do sign up and my '90 isn't ready. As for RA, probably not, but you never know.

I have a decent base tune that looks good on my computer for a boosted 3.0L. It will be a good thing to start with and then hopefully I can adjust things myself with my TwEECer. I have a certificate for WBD that looks like it will get some use soon!

It's easy to get it to 400 at the wheels, but FWD 400whp is stupid and not really usable. I'll tune it down to 350. I can see myself wanting way more, but I actually want to drive the car around without burning up my front tires at a simple green light. 400 on the track wouldn't be fun either.

Unless it's just a pure love for the 4 door family sedan that is the Taurus; why bother?

400 HP is a blast at the track with RWD or AWD - why not put all that money and time into a more usable platform?

The community/following of the SHO keeps me interested in it. Plus you'd be amazed how easy it is for this car to compete N/A on smaller tracks like Blackhawk and Autobahn against Mustangs and Vettes. For a twenty year-old car with four-doors and a little V6, I think that's pretty cool.

Plus I met the hubby through SHOs, so they are a bit sentimental to me. Awwww....

Said it a million times and ill say it again. All that matters is that you enjoy your car. There is always someone out there with something faster or more money. As long as it puts a smile on your face that is all that matters.

Good luck with the car it looks like it will be a healthy step up in power and should be tons more fun on track.

Thats a very interesting FPR on the firewall.....

michelle
08-12-2010, 06:47 PM
So FPR is on and 36# injectors are in the modified fuel rails and ready to go back on. Have my spark plug choices narrowed down to 2 brands, so I will have to grab some of those and install while the intake is off. Adam's insisting I do rod bearings, but they were done a couple years ago and have less than 5k miles on them. I have the oil pan off anyways, so it wouldn't hurt to check them out and other lower-end things.

Hopefully get more done tomorrow, but rumor has it Adam wants to check out another Bolens tractor. And by "check out", there is a 99% chance I'll be helping him load it on the trailer. So that will take a few hours out of my day.

Definitly wouldnt hurt to check out the journals on the crank as well as the bearings as long as you have access to them. Probably wouldnt be a bad idea to check them with plastigage either. Project looks good!

Seems to be going okay so far. Just looking over the motor before everything gets put back together. Top is good now, but tonight will be rod bearings. I'm hoping we can get away with just inspecting them since they were done about 5k miles ago (Adam did them, so I will let him re-inspect them). Unfortunately, that's a hard 5k miles with most of them being a consistent 3k+ rpm on the track. The motor was built 10k miles ago, but it would probably be smart to replace the main bearings again.

Once that is done, time to put the new oil pan on and hook up all the oil lines. New fuel pump should be shipped today, so that can go in soon.

Put the rest all back together and tune away.

School starts back up the 1st. Blackhawk event is the 17th. We'll see if it can happen by then. :stare

^ lot easier then dropping the tank.

still look into meth/water injection( yellow bottle HEET which is 99% meth and distilled water).
I ran a roots type s/c on a cavalier z24(ya that is right;)) and had meth/water injection and it was a great mod. Ran the s/c hard and could go out there and put my hand on the s/c, with out it I would get burnt if I did that. It sprayed before the t/b on my set up and into the s/c. Yours would be set up different obviously, but I see no intercooler on there so your intake temps I cant imagine how High they would be...
