the one in my pc now is just about a year old and ive absolutly had it with this pos. ive already RMA'd it twice because the thing just refuses to operate correctly. reads dvds and cds only when it wants to. push the button and itll eject but pull it back in right away. wont burn dvds. its not like it was a cheap unit either.

i could actually use a pair of them... the combo drive on my wifes computer wont burn dvds either.

any recommendations... i know someone around here deals with PC parts... cant remember who that was.

as for recommendations, literally just buy the 20 dollar combo drive. if it breaks go buy a new one.

Any of those will last you. I have had good experience with all those drives.

update the firmware, change the IDE cable and port that it is on, if that fails buy a new one and stop bitching. Who uses cds/dvds anymore anyways?

ill bitch if i feel the need to... :banana1:

whats wrong with still using cds/dvds? the only use i have for them is backing up stuff and most of my games still use them. my wife uses them for her business to back up customer photos and to make photo cds/dvds for the customer...

Cause solid state storage is faster. Digital mediums are going to be non existant soon anyways.

Solid State Harddrives = way to much dam money. Raptors in Raid 0 = cheap and effective.

Not solid state drives in the sense you are saying, solid state medium. Flash cards and such are a much more efficient and cheaper way to transport information aside from IP.

actually i do use my fair share of flash drives... its just my wife that still uses cds/dvds... hell... the last cd i burned was years ago... just having the ability to burn a disc is nice just incase something fails and i need to back-up my system.

the samsung was actually an upgrade for my wifes pc (cause she was still using cd and wanted to move to dvds for larger space), but since it gave me such problems i swaped the drives between PCs and it still gave me troubles... im just finally fed up with it.

It's the harsh truth to computers, everything you buy is outdated instantly and WILL fail. Worst thing you can do to a comp is turn it on and off, so you leave it on all the time to get the most life, well guess what happens when something runs 24/7? It eventually fails. Combo drives are cheap as shit so its no point in complaining about it, its like oild, you don't bitch about changing oil do you? It costs more than a combo drive and lasts even less.
