My three favorites are:
Dog Haus (brady street and wisconsin ave just east of water)
Martino's (on layton by the airport)
Philly Way (tried their chili dog once and it was pretty darn good...2nd and florida) but why go there for hotdogs?

Of course, portillo's (several locations in chicago area) is probably the best.

What makes or breaks a chili dog is the chili...hearty/thick sauce, no beans, a little heavy on the cumin seasoning...and I tend to prefer cheese sauce vs shredded cheese.

There is a new place in Muskego where the Jerome's Drugs is. Some kind of Chicago grill with Chitown style dogs, hot dogs, BBQ sammitches...gonna try it out some day.

I don't have a suggestion, only a funny chilidog story. DQ used to have chilidogs for $1. So one day I asked a few co workers if they wanted any cause i was making a run, then stopped there at lunch in the drive through. I ordered the 8 chilidogs i needed and drove around to the window. The old guy in the window just looks at me, his eyes narrowed, as he's handing over the dogs... "These are all for you aren't they?" he asks. "No" I say. "Uh huh" he says seeing right through me. I just hang my head in shame and take the dogs. No one at work had wanted any chili dogs, so i ordered 8 of them for myself :rolf Does this mean i have a problem?

An educated guess would be yes...a weight problem :goof

Hioh!

No, I know exactly what you mean...used to love to get 10 taco supreme, 5 hard shell, 5 soft shell. Felt so wrong, yet so right, lol.

The wife and I LOVE Sammy's, we eat lunch there often. Damn good chili dogs to. Their philly steaks with extra cheese and peppers effing rule as well.

Italian beef better at Sammys than Fratellis? I can't imagine better beef than Fratellis! Best sandwich ever there

Portillos beef with the hot pepper relish is one of the best Italian beef sandwiches I'll give you that. But Fratellis is 5 minutes away from my house also. Anytime we are in the greater Chicago area we stop at Portillos.

Just had Portillos on Sunday and it was yummy. Sammys is also awesome food.

Also that new restaurant that serves all kinds of chili is called "Chili Lili's"

Hmm.. I had Sammy's just this past weekend and my only real comment was...

It was so-so and well at least the price was right and it was all-beef. But nothing really to write home about besides price.

It was decent, but I guess I am used to the hole-in-the-wall hotdog places in chicago and those places are AMAZING, easily on par if not better than Portillos.

The best dog I ever had was in D.C. at a street vendor. Nothing like a dog that's been stewing in it's own juices since God knows when.

Two of them.

BUT...it's not the best thing I've ever had in a bowl, that's for sure. Even for the cincinati style chili's, it's the second best I had (skyway chili down in clearwater was better). I do enjoy real chili's though...it's a guilty pleasure that I might indulge after a night of drinking every six months or so. It can be so greasy that it upsets my normally indestructible stomach, lol.

We had a podunk place across the street that was to die for. I worked at Ryan Field/Northwestern U, and another place one block west that was every bit as good.

It was as if they were the same basic place...same franks, same buns, same everything. I lived on almost exclusively hot dogs during my 6 months there....
