View Full Version : Wisconsin Dells - Hotel Recommendations

Search wasn't being my friend on here, so if someone finds a thread about it, feel free to post it.

Anyways, looking at going to the Dells for a quick day or two in September to celebrate Adam dealing with me officially for a year.

My only requirement is that we spend time on the go-carts at Mount Olympus so I can kick his butt (well try :goof). I looked at some of their hotels that Mt. Olympus is linked with, but wasn't too impressed with the 360* views. Buying tickets separately is just fine.

Any recommendations on places to stay or ones to avoid?

DO NOT stay at the Mt Olympus "budget" hotel. I took my family there for my daughters birthday a couple years ago thinking it wouldn't be that bad, after all we just sleep and shower there. Everything you see in movies about these cheap places is in those rooms, from the scummy beds to the filthy bathrooms, when you walk in it feels like the perfect setting for a gang rape. Learn from my mistake, stay clear of anything called "motel" instead of "hotel". Lol

Just stay at Mt. I stayed there for a night and with the cost of the room you get to spend 2 days in there park. I spent 120ish for my kid, my gf, and me for a night. With that cost you can get to the park early the first day, then get your room around 4ish. Checkout is around 10 then spend the rest of the day in the park

If its for your anniversary don't skimp. Black Wolf Lodge, Chula Vista, Kalahari etc are all nice. Be advised that anything after Labor Day up there and a lot of stuff closes. I was shocked how dead it was a week after Labor Day a few years ago when we went.

Chulavista was awesome when we stayed there last year. Very nice, very clean... but not as cheap. With the price tag generally comes less "riff raff" however.

Meg and I stayed at Kalahari which was a blast...it's a ton of fun heading back to the room from the water park at like 10 at night.

It's indoor water park was a blast, but I've heard that Wilderness resorts is better as far as water parks go.

But definitely upgrade to those kind of places...it'll give you more choices when the sun goes down.

ive stayed at the wilderness and at the Kalahari and the wilderness was better in both the room/waterpark.

only thing that the kalahari had that i liked better was 2 things the wake bord pool ride thing(but has LONG lines) and there "in house" resturant/bar there food was better.

Kalahari is where we went last year. Rooms were very well kept, whole establishment was very well run. I would stay there again.

Chula's the best for a nice quiet weekend, Kalahari has a little bit for every age so it's more of a place to have a family weekend (all the kids lol)

Ive workd for all the bigger resorts in the Dells and my vote def goes to Chula...

I've stayed at Great Wolf and Chula, I think Chula's indoor water park was a little better.

I took these notes calling places last year, haha. Kind of unorganized.

The link has prices/notes of a few different places.

As our group found out at Automotion - when you see the foreign people get on their walkie talkies and come stand by your cart, they're signaling to the american guys on scooters to come remove you from the go karts.

Just so ya know.

Wilderness has always been good to me. Ive stayed there for vacations, family events (thanksgiving, xmas, ect.), and one hell of a bachelor party.

I got a timeshare for a weekend from a guy at my work at the "Wyndham Resorts at Glacier Canyon" (part of Wilderness) and it was an amazing room. The on-site waterparks are nice too... that wave pool is pretty brutal! It was a bit crowded but no matter where you go in the Dells it's going to be.

Copa Cabana has the hardest beds I've ever experienced. It was nearly impossible to sleep. Wilderness is nice.

I just returned from the Wyndham Resorts Timeshares in the Wilderness Resort and I was blown away.. It was a 2 bedroom deluxe condo and ended up with it from Thursday till today for $700 through Ebay.. So many waterparks, the shuttles are very accomadating, it had everything.

On a side note, if you have the time, do the Dells Comedy Adult Show at night with the Hypnotists.. Funniest shit I have ever seen.

me and the family stayed in the smaller hotel of the two wilderness lodges. we stayed in a suite---the room was incredible. the bigger waterpark is at the other hotel 2 miles away--you can take a bus every 15minutes. our suite had 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, hottub, washer/dryer. might be a bit much for a couple, but it was very nice. and our kids loved the indoor waterparks. i've also heard good things about kalahari, and that's where we'll probably stay this year when we go. no idea how much the room cost--my wife makes all the arrangements

I've been impressed with the Wilderness rooms, the waterpark was nice but I think Chula was slightly better, maybe about even. Chula's rooms are nice but not as nice as the Wilderness ones I've seen. Kalahari has the best indoor water park, IMO, never stayed in the rooms though.

Most often when we go (me and the lady) we stay at the cheapest places since most of our time is at water parks or out and about. Colonial was the cheapest, in April or May it was maybe $60 a night. Staying at the Flamingo gets you free Noah's Ark tickets (except Saturday nights), which is worth mentioning. Going there this weekend and since I waited so long to book rooms, the Flamingo is it...wasn't overly impressed with their rooms last time there but not too many options for what I was looking for unless I wanted to pile on too much credit card debt.

Ended up just reserving a room at Hotel Rome. Did that "make an offer" option, which allowed me to upgrade to a nicer room for the same price. (:

I figure I can milk the whole newlywed thing for 2 full years, not just the normal 1 year thing. :devil
