I know there are a few people on here who own them wondering what I should be looking for "as far as bad things go" when it comes to buying one used. I'm also looking at the a new one but I'm not sure if i love the new body style. I really looking for something that hasn't been beat on as this is going to be my new mostly stock daily driver.

any weak points on this car ?

They have a turbo so it would be to much of a car for you. Stay away.

I'd look into a normal Mazda 3. :thumbsup

Start the car and let it idle for 5 to 10 minutes. Check the exhaust for smoking. This is an insanely common problem. There are "remedies" but no true fix.

The stock rear motor mount on speed6s and speed3s is pretty weak and should just be upgraded.

My speed6 tends to pop out of second gear for no reason. It pretty much pisses me off.

I was kidding btw. :D I'd go for the older ones. The front end one the newer ones like stated looks a little weird.

That's what happens when they let anime artists design the cars.

Whomever thought of that design should be fired.

I've found a few nice used ones with the older body / 1 gen engine with 11k miles pretty fair priced .

the new mazdaspeeds are ugly as sin. I know the engine and trans mounts are weak, and they break easily. Stock they run around the same as a LSJ cobalt, maybe a tid bit faster.

If you're looking at a used one, take it for a spirited test drive, get her nice and hot, then let it sit and idle for 10-15 minutes to see if she starts smoking. Early models (07?) seem to be more likely to have problems with the turbo oil seals, and this may have been addressed in later ones (08.5+).

Rear motor mount is not a deal breaker, and is a 15 minute job to swap if you want to try a different one. Stiffer mount = less wheel hop, smoother shifts, but more vibrations. Stock mount = soft like jello, and quiet daily driver.

Early Speed3s also had a recall for the transmission mount under the battery failing and dropping the motor, supposedly fixed in 08+.

Make sure it doesn't have bald tires, lol.

I love my Speedy3.

If I get one I'm getting painters tape and giving it teeth.
