Nice scam, $5800 for you to do the work. lol

It's like the self checkout lanes in stores. Hey can I also stock the shelves and go shag carts since I'm here?

Actually pretty cool. Although, it's not $5800 cool.

Self checkout is the best thing that's happened to a grocery store since electricity.

You pay for the experience. People pay for school to learn new shit, why not this?

Not everyone is internet savvy enough to muscle their way through it. Think about how many fail in the process and end up with pile in the end.

Ever hear:

Labor $50 an hour
$60 an hour if your gonna watch
$70 an hour if your gonna help
$85 an hour if you worked on it before bringing it in here

I'm paying $120K for a car, I'm not assembling it.

It reminds me of the show Ultimate Factories. They go to Ferrari and how meticulous and state of the art everything is. They go to the Corvette factory and they let the host weld a frame. lol

Something about that doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling. I'd rather spend that kind of cash learning how to drive the car. Especially considering 90% of Corvette drivers never turn a wrench in their lives.

building it yourself probably voids the warranty! :)

I think it's pretty neat - I'd do it!

Kind of cool, we supply the rear cam retainer and timing cover, ship 84 units to Wixom every week.

VERY cool. IMO cheap as hell if you think about the manufacturing model. That most definitely costs GM money to have an owner there trying to "help" out. The $5800 is just to recoupe the time needed to have someone supervising and teaching and helping out.

BTW Karp, if you want to pay normal price and have it run through the assembly line they will do that for you as well.

Plum, it EXPLICITLY says that the owner built engines will have the same warranty as the professionally assembled ones.

I think this very cool as well. I mean if I was a rich corvette guy I would be all over this. How cool would it be to pop the hood on your brand new ZR1 and say "ya I built that motor." I personally take a lot of pride in my work and it brings me absolute joy to see the cars I work on operate, run, and drive the way they're supposed to. This would just be an awesome experience for some like me.

For sure. There will be tons of them forsale years from now with <10k miles. With motors signed by random old rich people.

I think its really cool, but.... For that extra $5,800 id be pulling the engine that they assembled already and making some hard part upgrades!

I think I could deal with 638hp and a 5 year warranty before Id care about pulling the motor and putting some hard part upgrades into it... Thats 5 years of pounding the crap out of it and not caring if it blows up.

If I had the money to casually purchase a ZR-1, I can pop a few more bucks for the experience. What the hell, you only live once.

It's like the self checkout lanes in stores.

whats wrong with them? would you rather stand in line behind people who have full carts of shit when you only 10 items? i work at a grocery store and when i get 15 min breaks that includes buying my lunch the self checkout is by far faster than any full service lane.. it helps if you know how to use them tho.

as for the car. if i could afford it i would love to build the motor. i think its pretty cool.

The owner-built engines still get the same 5-year, 100,000 mile warranty as the engines the pros build, GM said.

Could they give me a discount if I request that the engine comes unassebled and I put it together at home?

i would have coughed up the money to assemble my ls7--why not?? i'm sure the tech is holding your hand the whole time. the motor/car has the same warranty. pretty damn cool if you ask me
