I have a pro torque converter. reason I went with them is I heard good things from ppl who run them and reasonably priced. I bought mine from Kilpatricks. But u can call pro torque n they will set u up with what they think is right.

Any suggestions what stall and also a good local place or online to get one? Will you want a lock-up? If not, a general rule is to not get a T/C with a stall speed less than the cruising rpm's of your car in top gear, which with an OD and 3.55's isn't that much (2200-2400 rpm's @ 70mph?) Generally with a small block around 400hp I'd think something at least 2800rpm up to around 3400 rpm stall T/C would be good at that weight.

There are 100's of over the counter small block chevy convertors out there that will suit your needs for a 700 r4 given your info, even online help thru Hughes and others if unsure. Localy I had my last 100% custom made by Dunhams here in town, im talking two completely different convertors married together with a proposed HP and desired stall, they know convertors.

Dont over stall it unless you have a track goal, at least on a street car.

400 HP and a 3.55 seems more of a cruiser/streeter. I would go with a 2500-2800 converter. You will have to run a switch to lockup the converter as you will with any OD trans if the car wasnt equipped with a OD. Just a little gumption off the line but still keep it from floating around on the street.

Then highway hit the lockup switch and your good to go.:thumbsup

Most general off the shelf converters will fit your application perfectly for the everyday person. But with converters you do get what you pay for if your looking for more.
