The wife and I were awakened at 4:00am by what sounded like fireworks, I remember thinking to myself wtf it's 4am, call it quits already.

So I get up to look out the window and OMG there's a raging fire right across the street. My neighbors attached garage is engulfed in flames and no fire trucks around, just a couple of volunteer firefighters on scene.
One of the most frightening things I've ever seen, she's an elderly lady and we didn't know if she was still in there.

Finally the trucks arrived and got things under control.

Thankfully she's ok, it turns out that the smoke alarms in the house did their job and woke her up so she could get out in time. She's the one who called the fire dept.

The house is still standing but it's in bad shape, she's going to be staying with her son for a while. The brand new Lexus in the garage was reduced to a metal skeleton, even the aluminum rims melted.

Police and Fire investigators are over this morning sifting through the rubble trying to determine the cause.

We just walked over to see if she needed anything and man is it bad.
I feel sick right now after looking inside the front door, the fire got inside the house as well and trashed it. Everything is smoke damaged.
I feel so bad for her right now, thankfully her son is there for her.
They're salvaging pictures and valuables right now, terrible...

possible firework debris from the park last night? I know it was 4am, but it might have taken a while to ignite.

Yeah being the 4th of July, the first thing that comes to mind is fireworks,
it's possible but I think we're too far away for that to happen.

Damn. Good to here your neighbor got out OK. And this folks is why I am a proponent of detached garages. Just too many thinks in a garage that can start on fire easily.
