Hello Ford People,

Who knows how to remove the front brake caliper on a 1980 F350?

I guess the way it works is you remove an "H" shaped piece of metal at the bottom of the caliper and then the caliper comes free. My problem is that the h-shaped piece of metal won't come loose. I removed the retaining screw but now the piece won't budge no matter how hard I hit it with a hammer. Also, there is a metal shim on that h-shaped piece. I am guessing that it prevents play. Does it also lock the h piece over a boss of some sort?

The metal H-shaped piece at the bottom of the caliper is slid out using a punch.

The metal shim (a piece of spring steel) is used to take up the slop in the brakes and keep the "wear" off the H-shaped piece. It is put between the caliper and the H-shaped piece.

You'll likely have to heat up the caliper to get that H-shaped piece out.
