I'm not really a die-hard <insert car brand here> fan, but I thought this was pretty impressive.

Keep in mind that the environment was much more controlled than day to day driving... but still, impressive.

Blah, no one cruises at 43mph, in a circle, without braking, start/stopping/etc.
I could get that much in my Spyder doing that.
I've gotten 36mpg just doing 60mph for 6hrs.

The hybrids could probably get 96mpg doing it :P

I know what you're saying, but honestly, I don't think my Mazda could do that. I get 22.5MPG when I baby it with mostly city driving. On the freeway it gets into the high 20s, but that's it.

In the end, it's still just a Mustang:gay

Yeah it's a bit useless unless you compare it to another car doing the same thing IMO. Where in the real world are you going to drive anywhere that's as flat as Bristol, much less for 700 miles.

Totally. It just doesn't have the appeal of a 4000lb Grand Am. That Pontiac couldn't give away.

Congrats, the engineers found the optimal speed the car can cruise at. I bet you can do 50+ with a vette. They can do 30+ on the hwy at 70 mph.

This event wasn't really intended to duplicate real world conditions. It was just about seeing how much mileage per gallon one could get in a controlled environment. I pulled 49 mpg out of my HHR panel (which by the way weighs less than a regular HHR with windows and all that upholstery). This was on a county road with no traffic and nearly flat topography. I wonder what it would have gotten at a track like Bristol?

id like to see other cars with the same conditions...
