Helped Coop restore the headlights on his wife's 99 Solara. He picked this stuff up from WalMart for about $17

Looks good, you can also just use the same cleaning/polishing compound use to polish paint. No need to buy a product that is just for headlights.

its not just a compound, its actually light sanding, then fine sanding then a polish compound, then a sealer

Kit included 2 different grits of sandpaper, buffing cloth, and a few pouches of different cleaning agents. Simple kit and very easy to follow instructions.

Yeah if they're real bad start with 1k sand paper, then 2k and polishing compound. I've made many a foggy headlight crystal clear this way. I don't doubt that the headlight kits do a great job, but you can get the same results with your standard detailing items and not have to spend money on a product that you would only use on headlights.

med grit rubbing compound gives ya the same results for $5, or meguir's plastix, or 3M glass polish. I have done a ton of headlights mostly with left over 1/2kgrit paper and glass polish and they come out looking like new. I just did a set tonight with rubbing compound and used it on the severly worn abs hood deflector too.

I read this and was immediately shocked to see it was Chris who wrote it.

"your guys" :goof

Is it just sand paper and compound? Sanding it definitely helps if they're really bad - definitely takes a lot of elbow grease.

Now go grab a bottle of Meguiars Plast-x to use on them periodically, so they don't get bad again. That stuff works awesome also.

thats the beauty the kit comes with a sealer, harner it never has to be waxed or redone again, one time is guranteed according to the package for life.I was put no wax or other items on them,we will see how long it lasts

xxsn0blindxx

Sealer is just a synthetic wax, i.e. contains no carnauba. They typically last longer than a pure wax, however they don't last forever. If you don't re-apply it will eventually wear away.

I think the point I and others are trying to get at is you can use products that you may already keep for detailing or purchase products that you can continue to use in other capacities after you clean your headlights.

For instance I have 1k and 2k grit sandpaper and I have polishing compound and synthetic sealant, so I'd be a fool to go buy this kit. Or say you don't have any detailing products. Go out and buy a pack of sandpaper, some polishing compound and wax and you can clean your headlights and then use it to take care of your your paint many times over.

On the same subject, I ended up using a product similar...turtle wax's "Headlight Restore Kit".

Same results, took my very yellow/faded headlight covers and made them like new. Very impressed with the results.

Came w/ polish compound, 4 different wet sanding pads w/ spray lube, and sealer. Did both headlights in under 30 minutes.

Got it from wal-mart as well for much only 8.79. Looks like this:

At a show tonight in Muskego, a guy from 3M was demonstrating their headlight restoring product. Looked like it worked pretty well. Now all those Neons out there wont look like they have Glaucoma!

sure but they put a lifetime gurantee on it.its a sealer, and hardner,we spilled some on the floor and it hardens clear. it wont need to be redone.Again going by whats on the bag, there is a warning not to let it get on the painted surfaces and if it does to wash it off right away before it hardens. you wax ans bufing will allow it to come back so have fun doing your headlights many times as i will only need to do mine one time

I machine polish my car 1 to 2 times a year, I just hit the headlights at the same time as I'm doing the paint, so no extra work for me at all. If the stuff's so great why not put it on your paint and never have to polish or wax you paint ever again? Sounds ridiculous right?

Reverend Cooper
06-12-2010, 01:04 PM
not if it is designed to seal and harden to plastic,it doesnt sound odd to me.In fact I will do nothing to the headlights for the next year, lets see how they look.i put wax on the wifes car 1 time a year so doing it twice would be more work. actually 50% more, then over 5 years it would be 275% more work. so i will stick with my once in a lifetime 16.88+tax solution.

I used it today.

Was not happy with results.

And yes, followed directions to a T.

Left streaks with sealer, didnt polish it to my liking.

Going to have Yoo polish them tommorow.
