Hey guys, a buddy of mine has a 1984 V6 Auto Firebird that had its carburetor fail; as in oil pouring out of it....

First off, is this a carb failure, or something worse? If it is a carb failure, where can I find a replacement carburetor and what kind of price range am I looking at for the part?

The car has been sitting for nearly 20 years in a garage, and requires new tires, battery and the carb to be hopefully running again.

If the cost is too high for repairs, is there anyone even interested in taking it off his hands for a fairly low price? Probably around $2K?

Here are the quick facts of what I know about the car:

1984 FIREBIRD WITH THE v6 CARB, AUTO
2.8 L 173 CID V6
MILEAGE 62k
RED/CHARCOAL
HARDTOP

MISSING RIGHT DOOR MIRROR

NEEDS CARB
NEEDS TIRES
NEEDS BATTERY
NEEDS TLC

NO RUST, A BIT OF CLEARCOAT FADING ON HOOD

That is all the information I currently have from him; he doesn't know much about cars and has it at a mechanic shop for service currently.

Thanks everyone in advance!

Chances are that the air cleaner is full of oil-for I have never heard of an oil leak on a carb. This is a typical deal on a tired engine, or one with a clogged PCV system. PM sent for ya.
