There is a SUPER CLEAN 1987 Merkur XR4Ti on Craigslist right now for $1500.00

http://racine.craigslist.org/cto/1772240625.html

50,000 original miles.

Automatic, completely stock!

Funny enough, I do know the guy selling it, and he is a legit person.

This is a steal for a SVO-Turbo 2.3L, and has easy fixes to get back to 100%

Someone should swipe this up!

It looked like a cosworth escort back in the day with mustang headlights.

I thought they were fun vehicles and could scoot pretty well with simple mods, and made rare little sleepers.

what was the issue with these? I don't know if it's accurate or not, but these, along with the similar merkur scorpio both had issues with unreliability...to the extreme per internet lore. What lead to this?

Cool find. This is the american version of the Ford Sierra/Granada that was extremely popular in the UK.

If anyone wants to know more info on the car (or XR4Ti's in general), please let me know.
T-5 trans swap right in, 5.0's also swap in pretty easily. With a cold air intake, 3" turbo back exhaust, front mount intercooler, and 255lph fuel pump, these cars hit 300hp at the rear wheels with no problems with a small amount of tuning. Very fun, especially for a daily driver.

My last one ran 15.86, bone stock 100k mile car on the stock C3 auto.
3" turbo-back exhaust, homemade 3" intake piping with cone filter, TC intercooler, TC ECU, Big VAM, Walbro 255lph, and a bit of tuning brought my that same car down to a 13.10 on the C3.

Also, the car in the link (posted at $1500) is actually priced at $1200 for anyone interested.

It's pretty much do to 2 things:

Front bumper does nothing for the car. The Cosworth front bumper swap makes the car look 100% nicer.

Wheels. Tiny, recessed wheels give the car a strange stance. Bigger, flush fitting wheels also make the car look 100% nicer.
