I know this has been a topic before, but what are the good and reasonably priced auto transport companies out there? I am potentially looking at bringing something back from NW New Jersey and this seems like the most logical way to do it. Give me your feedback and experiences.

Good one Dave! :rolf

Ok, now that we have had our fun, I know that some of you out there have had some experience with transport companies. Tell me who is good and who to stay away from.

well it's gonna matter if it runs and drives or if it is a roller. couple hundred dollar difference. the type of vehicle.... car, truck, suv, etc..

i paid someone $800 to bring a car back from New York. they lived in detroit and then went to nyc, then here, then back to detroit. on an open trailer. wasn't a company, just a fellow that was recommended to me from a member on this board. search the posts for shipping with my user name.

i was also quoted $1.25-$1.50/loaded mile from random people on racingjunk.com

honestly, i'd take Tom's $1000 in the enclosed offer if he was serious. You probably will not beat that.

Yes $1000 is a good price. This stuff is not cheap if you want it done right and these places pick the car up when they want to and are in the area of your car.

So far I have gotten a 5 or 6 quotes and all are in the $600-700 range for an open trailer, door to door with full insurance and no deductable. The car is running so I don't have to worry about those extra charges. Thanks for the input, now we'll see what happens with the negotiations...

Would that be Roger, who I suggested at one time when this came up? Hes from the Detroit area...

He transported a running/driving 87' Trans Am TPI donor to me 1.5 years ago for the best price I could find(under $400 from PA to here), and has done other cars as well...he also came to buy a winter beater of mine for parts last spring :). Hes a good guy and will at least be competitive I'm sure...

Does it need to be enclosed or is open fine?

Take a weekend and fly out there to drive it back is what I'd do, get to see it in person and get to know it driving home, but some can't spend a weekends time to do it either.

yeah that was Roger. He was cool. I talked to him about picking up the Z, but he didn't respond to me or another friends inquire for the same thing. Like by a month or two. He got my Land Rover to me fast though.

So how much do you think from the middle of ohio to here?

shouldn't be too much. if that roger guy did it, it would probably be close to where he lives in MI so he just has to go straight down rather than 10 hours east and back.
