Who does animal photos?

My gf and I really want some photo's of our cat to frame etc. We have taken a number of shots of him (mostly point n shoot, and a couple dslr) but can't seem to get anything very good. He's a black cat, and my photography skills can't capture him well.

Anyone here do animal shots? I'm not looking for anything real fancy, and I don't have a shit ton of $, but I'll pay a pro! I only need a couple real good ones to put up on the wall etc.
