In case anyone hasn't heard this news yet...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdLv9jjIq8k

Top of the 9th, 2 outs, perfect game intact after a ridiculous over the shoulder catch in center field.
Last batter hits to 2nd base side.... First base ump Jim Joyce calls the runner safe, when he was CLEARLY out by 2 steps... his wikipedia page is already locked, and probably has a horde of security to escort him out of the ballpark/home.

Wait a minute...was this rebroadcast with the expressed written consent of major league baseball? Or is this verbal implied consent?

Joyce deserves to have his arms broken for that. What a fucking asshole.

Sabotage perhaps? Almost seemed too obvious a mistake.

It was a absolute horseshit call. He needs to be fined and sodomized with half of a splintered broken bat.

Even the batter threw his hands on his head like he knew he was out. I think the pitcher took it better than the fans or announcers. lol

Pitcher probably kept his cool on camera and mailed the ump a pipebomb.

I have to admit I had to watch the normal speed play twice. The first time, I thought it could have been called a tie goes to runner, but I watched it again and thought NO FUCKIN WAY. lol

Joyce issued a statement apologizing for blowing the call.

Joyce spoke with the media following the game and admitted he made a mistake: "I just cost the kid a perfect game. I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw until I saw the replay. It was the biggest call of my career." Joyce apologized to Galarraga following the game after he saw the replay. A perfect game by Galarraga would have set a Major League record of three perfect games in twenty-three days.

Sucks big time....I'm sure the ump is already feeling pretty crappy after seeing the replay, hes human. Just effed up at a terrible time.

Even though it won't happen I wonder if MLB would consider "reversing" the call, seeing as it was the 2nd to last out of the game and the next guy grounded out, not affecting the outcome in any way. Void the last at bat and call the previous guy out.

I doubt the call can be reversed, but I could be wrong. Joyce made a mistake and admitted it, I can appreciate that.

There is no such rule as a tie goes to the runner. Its up to the ump to determin whether the base running is out or safe.

I thought he was out untill they replayed it 10 times and saw the other camera angle. The ump shouldnt of missed that call.

doubt they will reverse the call. Pretty sure once the call is made that's it. Even if its a stupid call

I blame the pitcher. If he would have just let the other team get some hits and score runs, the mistake by the ump wouldn't even matter.

You don't see the Brewer's having this problem ever.

there's no way they could reverse the call (well they could but it would set a precident that i don't think bud wants to set) if they do it, then anytime there's a call that's blown that would effect the game they will have to overturn it. yes the call was BAD, but atleast joyce had the balls to admit to the pitcher and the tigers that he made a bad call. all to often in instances like this the ump will stand by his call and be a dick about it, but not him. hell if you watch it in real time it looks really close. me personally if it was close i would go ahead and give the benifit to the pitcher ( i know that's not how it works, but that's what i would do)

Right, it's a little closer when watching it in real time, but even so, what harm would it have done for the ump to have just punched him out and be done with it?
Would the Indians have argued the call? highly doubt it.

Highly unlikely the Indians were going to score 3 runs with 1 out to go anyway, just call the guy out.
Rob a guy of a hit.... or rob a guy of a perfect game.... hmm, tough call.

He had the opprotunity to call a huddle together with the rest of his crew and see what they saw.

I really don't see why he didn't do that seeing as he knew the magnitude of the call he made and what impact it would have. You know he knew there was doubt with that call too how he flinched and hesitated before he made the safe call. He should have excersized his right to call a huddle and get the rest of the crews opnions. Espically after seeing it on the big screen while they would have been having their discussion.

Shit happens, this time it hapened to him. I give him props for coming out and apologizing quickly after the game was over.

As stated above the call will not be over turned, then they will want to go back and look at all the other bullshit calls that have happened over the years.

I read GM gave the guy a free Corvette for getting screwed. Nice. I like when wealthy people get free shit.

Would you be pissed if you were the pitcher? I wouldn't. He probably made $500k that game:shades

BTW I do not support instant replay in baseball. Keep it natural.

How is instant replay in baseball any different than football??

It's only available for questionable home runs, whether they hit the top of the fence and went out/back in, or did not.
Also for fan interference calls regarding home runs.

Right you are on that...GM and the Tigers got together and gave the kid a Vette. Then instead of the manager taking the lineup card to the home plate ump (who just happened to be Jim Joyce) they had Gallaraga do it.

here's the story.... http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Armando-Galarraga-receives-a-Corvette-consolatio?urn=mlb,245508
