Shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. You can tell Ford gave up on the brand. This is the first time (in history??) that it doesn't have any brand specific vehicles.

It's too bad they didn't follow through with their plan they announced a few years ago. To turn Mercury into a all hybrid, luxury oriented brand. I think that would have been smart. But maybe judging by the limp sales of the Lexus HS maybe it wasn't a good idea and that's why they didn't follow through.

Mercury is Officially DEAD! They are going to expand Lincoln. Hopefully with RWD Sedans so they can truly be competitive.

Really? Didn't realize that, guess I never really seen/payed attention to it. Guess its not really a memorable car haha.

don't know what would make it any less "memorable" of a car than the Escape hybrid. Exactly the same platform but with a different front clip, badges, and interior.

The official letter from Ford: http://www.ford.com/doc/20100602_customer_letter.pdf

Personally I think this will open up funds within Ford to make better cars, and expand their product line.

Realistically Mercury cars were nicer than Fords only for the fact that you had more standard options. Other than that, they were identical other than a few little body trim changes.

Bon Voyage Mercury!

Now everyone look out for some big ass rebates! :rolf

It's too bad Ford never made the investments to develop the brand. I would have liked to have seen Ford do what GM is doing with Buick and spin them off to a focused premium brand. The problem is Lincoln hasn't developed the cachet that Cadillac has so there isn't a lot of market between Ford and Lincoln.

Sad to see Merc go.....Always loved Gassered early-60's Comets, chopped '49-'50 Merc's, Cyclone spoilers, and late 60's Cougars.
