§ 176. Respect for flag

(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery.

From the US flag code, I agree with the company. Get some real drapes, Commies!

I think its more of the issue where they are threatening eviction for display of our nations flag. Its not the fact that they are or are not using it as a drape. It doesn't appear to me that they are using it for that purpose, they are just displaying it.

If she wants to display it she can get a flag pole and put that in her place for people to look at when they come over. She may as well take a big steaming pile of crap on the flag, it is the same thing she is doing right now. Do not disrespect the flag and you will be ok.

Those Taliban countries surely dont make there countrymen take ther "we hate the US" if they flew it on their little mud huts right ?

Neal, that refers to draping as in using the flag as a table covering, hung over the back of a couch, an impromptu seat cover for your Buick. It is perfectly acceptable and with in the bounds of proper flag ettiquette to hang a flag in a window.

She should have it on a pole first. If she has it in a window to show pride, she is STILL DOING IT WRONG! She has it backwards.

Also I am willing to bet good money she didn't take it down every night or have proper lighting on it at night time.

6. Time and occasions for display
a.It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.

Here is #8

8. When the flag is displayed in a manner other than by being flown from a staff, it should be displayed flat, whether indoors or out. When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the union should be uppermost and to the flag's own right, that is, to the observer's left. When displayed in a window it should be displayed in the same way, that is with the union or blue field to the left of the observer in the street. When festoons, rosettes or drapings are desired, bunting of blue, white and red should be used, but never the flag.

I read #14 and saw this... "14. When hung in a window, place the blue union in the upper left, as viewed from the street."

I didnt think she was using it as drapery though, she simply had it hung up inside her house. hanging in the window does not make it drapery, that would be having 2 sewn together to cover a window for shade and what not. Simply hanging it in front is not a drapery. She was going to use drapery to block it from outside view. regardless, she isnt being forced to remove it because its hung up wrong, its because its the flag. Even if it was hung up the correct way, she would still be forced to remove it. thats the issue here not the manner in which she hung it up. if she cant fly their flag why can the apt complex have one flying out front? isnt that being hypocritical?

Yes, he had the flag backwards.

You're really just trying to back out of the fact that you've insulted and ridiculed a woman who was trying to display it correctly and is only upset that they're making her move/remove it for the wrong reason.

You can hang the flag in a window, you don't need a light on it but she had it in the wrong position, cheers to her for sticking up for herself in an attempt to honor those who served.

The flag is staying btw, just saw it on the news.

Also - the picture in that article is flipped somehow, the flag in the window is actually hung the correct way. Get off your soap box.

Hey Steffek, her husband has served in both the Gulf and Bosnia and I believe that gives them the right to hang the flag any way they want, as her husband has already proved his patriotism through his military service in two different war zones. What have you done besides run your mouth in an idiotic fashion? (Again)

What have I done? I sponsor many military outings and give military discounts at my place. Also, if you would READ what we are posting, you would see has the flag is backwards. If she is so gung ho USA you would think about getting the simple things right first. Shit, I learned how to hang a flag and how to respect it when I was in cub scouts.

Quick edit

I just wanted to add this for those like Hitman who did not read everything we were posting. Here is the picture of her place.

Now here is the PROPER way to show it.

When the flag is displayed in a manner other than by being flown from a staff, it should be displayed flat, whether indoors or out. When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the union should be uppermost and to the flag's own right, that is, to the observer's left. You're still wrong. Watch the video, it's hung the right way. That picture is flipped. Every time they've showed it on the news, it's hung the right way.

Have a good memorial day now that you've done everything possible to insult a vet and the wife that supports him.
