Was looking today at air compressors at sears and just wondered what size would be good for a small garage for running air grinders, decent impact wrench and so on.

What PSI rating?
What gallon capacity?

Not looking for crazy expensive just good quality for decent price. Would say $350 and under

As stated, the tools you listed are about 6 to 10 CFM in consumption. I have a 2 gallon carry unit and for reference I need to wait for the thing between lug nuts with my big impact.

You will want something with at least 125 psi and 30 gallons for basic tools. If you actually want to fab with a die-grinder you will want a 60+ gallon tank.

Now I did do my whole car with my $79 compressor, but could have done it much faster with a real one.

You're gonna need 220v for any decent size compressor.

^ I have the same one. Works ok for most things. I ported a set of 409 heads with it. You can run the tank down pretty fast but for using the impact it works great. Invest in a decent impact if anything with these smaller compressor. IR makes a nice one. Snap on of course also.

7cfm @ 120psi or better for air tools, for sure. My dad has a 12cfm, with a pretty large tank, and it doesnt keep up with his air grinder. I wouldnt get anything above 120psi, unless you buy a regulator for the work line, or enjoy shrapnel

edit actually i was remembering wrong, it doesnt keep up with 2.

Isn't this like asking how much hp do you want?

Get as much as you can afford.

Hope that the outlet in the garage is 20amps.
