computer dummy question:

Every time I've posted pics on this site it just provides a link to the pics.
How do I make it so the actual pic appears in the post rather than a link?

thanks

On vb boards put the image url between the "" and "" markup. Vb boards will then translate the script markup into html markup and show the image.

example:
YOUR URL HERE

The images are just stored in my computer, do I need to put them on photobucket to get a URL? Sorry I have no idea what I'm doing here

Try this:

1. Upload one of the pictures such as I'll do below at the "manage attachment"
portions like you usually use to upload a pic.

2. It'll show the link to the picture both in the "Additional Options" portion of the
reply page, AND at the bottom of your post...if you have a PC, left click the link,
and select "copy link location"

3. Now that you've copied link location, you will post then hit "control" and "v"
at the same time to paste the copied link and then finish with . It should
look like this:

http://brewcitymuscle.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=6950&stc=
1&d=1274279910

I added a "*" in the tag so you could see what
it'd look like...here is the what it looks like with out the "*" in the img tag:

[img]http://brewcitymuscle.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=6950&stc=1&d=1274279910

by the way, you don't have to hit just "control" and "v", you could also select from
the menu tab at the top of your monitor "edit" and then scroll down and select
"paste" to paste the copied url to your post b/w the img brackets.

Now these should only work on this forum and for people logged into BCM. If you
wanted to post pics for other forums, etc, then it's best to use photobucket or
something similar.

Yes. Linking to files on your own computer won't work.

Here's why:
If you linked say C:\documents and settings\whistlinsix\my documents\my pictures\whistlinsix.jpg

It won't work because:

1. Files on your computer are just that, on your computer only. Everyone would have to have that exact same folder directory on their own computer, and have that same file you want to link, in order to view it. (In which case they'd already have the file anyway, and you wouldn't have to link it :goof)

or

2. If you shared your personal folders with the entire internet, which you reallllly don't want to do, and I'm not even sure if it can be done, for safety reasons.

FWIW I am pretty sure if you just upload your pictures to photobucket it will automatically generate the [IMG] string which can be simply copy and pasted directly into the post, and your done. Very simple.

Basically just upload the picture to photobucket and have it generate the markup for you.

Otherwise what was described by prince valiant should work as well. EXCEPT he has in his description to "left click the link and select [Copy Link Location]". He had a brain fart and must have meant "right click and select [Copy Link Location]" i.e. push the button on the mouse that you DON'T use for everything else, the right button.

How come when I try and attach a .GIF file to a post this way, somewhere it's getting converted to a .JPG file? I have some .GIFs I wanna post, but if I use Photobucket they'll just get TOS'd.

Also, bamp.
