They just did a local news spot saying it was being renovated?
Must be getting Obama-renovated as in free money for all!

I don't think it was an eyesore, to me it was a national landmark. I remember as a kid going to grandma and grandpa's house, we knew we were on the right track when we turned at the purple house.

That's exactly why I'm pissed it's gone. Dude took a stand. It's about time someone made "their property" THEIRS.

The city MADE him paint his house so he painted it purple. He put up a fence and the city told him it was too tall, so he took a CHAINSAW and cut it shorter!

What's the point in "owning" something if it's never really yours to do with as you please?

I remember that house from back when I was little. Kinda sad to see it gone. Didn't bother me any, I kinda liked looking at it. And also showing people that never saw it before if we were in that area.

While I 100% support his standing up to The Man, I would have hated to have been a neighbor.

Wasn't there some type of helicoptor there once???

It's been a good 15 years since Ive been down that road.

I never understood why people let stuff like that bother them...

Maybe I'm just a little more care free than others. So what, he painted his house purple, who the fuck cares. He served for our country, let the fucking man do what he wants. Unless I was misinformed he is a vet for some branch of the military.

Maybe me being younger generation, I just accept that some people are different.

Paint your house and treat your yard how ever you want... Maybe when I own a home and my neighbors let there yards go to shit I will care more.

I used to think why people cared about stuff like that. Then I bought a house.

He worked for the city, in the forestry department. Further proof the city has more weirdos on the payroll than sane people.

Happy for his neighbors, that guy was/is a phuckin' loon! When you're paying a mortgage, you'll understand why his neighbors hated it.

I grew up right by there too. 20 years ago it was a fairly normal looking house, but I think the more people bitched about stuff the more he went out of his way to piss them off

I was just thinking the same thing. The county inspector is due out any day now to ensure there isn't a car repair business in operation.

We did the temporary electrical there and will be wiring the new house afaik.

The owner is not getting any government cheese unavailable to anyone else, just rebates on some energy efficient "upgrades". He did get a helluva price on the property though.

trust me you will.. my yard is nice and the grass is always cut. my neighbors on the other hand... they have a ton of shit all over half done landscaping and more weeds in there yard than grass that they only cut once a month. i take PRIDE in what i have i can't believe the people that pay for a home to let it go to shit.... i never heard about this purple house before so im not going to comment on that...

as long as you have all your bills paid, and what ever mess you have is behind closed doors or fences, nobody should be able to tell you what to do on your own property

That's the best view on Google Maps. It hasn't been that overgrown for some time. You could easily see the purple house with no problems.

funny thing was back like 10ish years ago, a friend of my uncle was an inspector for the city, and someone was trying to report the building condemned. he went and inspected the property, inside and out, and found nothing major. the house and yard looked unkept but most everything important was taken care of. house wasn't in disrepair until like 5 or so years ago, and it fell apart fast.
