Started on this late Fri evening, got it set this evening after working on it off and on from about noon till 7.

Lots of putzy work when doing a cam on one of these cars... I think my personal fav is the stretch belt for the a/c compressor:fire

Pulled the intake off to clean the oil residue out of it from the breather.

Kinda start to the point where the stock cam comes out. Gotta love blowing apart a brand new car with 4k miles on it!.

Off to the dyno tomorrow.

Vid up first:

The dual springs require different seats, valve guide seals and retainers, these ones are meant to work with the stock keepers though.

Nice Job! you do very professional work!!!!!!!

I rotate the engine to TDC on each cylinder im working on so the valves drop only about a 1/4" which is easy to deal with. getting a air line in some spark plug holes is just about impossible and this is a work around.

The numbers are in! 497 HP and 451 TQ! Dyno graph tomorrow, no vids were taken. The car is too loud for video. All with tiny 1-5/8" primary ebay headers, 2.5: stock mid pipe and JBA axle back. Proving the larger primary headers that cost a fortune aren't really needed on a stock CI motor.

Sounds nasty at idle! Great pics and numbers too.

When you takin that thing back to the strip. 500whp and a decent tire should pretty damn fast.

Yeah the mid pipes (true duals in one piece) are the only piece of stock exhaust intact.

I believe they are! I got them second hand so none of the instructions are with them, i put a set of those OBX headers ona C6 and the build and materials looked identical, which also fit amazingly well!

I've had obx headers on my Acura for 4 years and 80k miles! No problems.

Sounds great!

Are your cam specs going to remain hush hush?

Nice!! I was looking at OBX 1 3/4 LT's for the GTO. I could imagine with a set of 1 7/8 on yours, you'd probably pickup some grunt all over the powerband?

Nice!! I was looking at OBX 1 3/4 LT's for the GTO. I could imagine with a set of 1 7/8 on yours, you'd probably pickup some grunt all over the powerband?I would imagine best case scenario he'd lose a bit on the bottom end, be even midrange, and might pick up a few hp on the top end...and that is best case scenario imo. This might be advantageous for a track car that wants to spend most it's time in the upper portion of the power band.

But a likely scenario is that he'd lose overall average power, and thus be slower on the street.

Tom said it himself at the dog get together...to the effect that if a big part of the point is to scavenge exhaust gasses from the cylinder, you kill the effect with too large a primary...so less power.

The velocity of the exhaust charge goes down the larger the primary, therefore the overall momentum of the charge. It's this momentum of the charge that scavenges the other cylinder.

Dam. I'd have thought for sure pushing 500HP that 1 5/8's would be a bottle neck.

Dam. I'd have thought for sure pushing 500HP that 1 5/8's would be a bottle neck.Well, at 1 5/8th, I'm sure he's giving up some power above 5500 rpm...elsewhere, not too sure. It's all about primary length, engine rpm, volume of exhaust gasses per stroke.

Cool pics, i make the timing cover and rear cam retainer in Grafton. Die cast, machine and assemble.

thats why i went with the 1 3/4 not the 1 7/8 on my car you lose low end for a slight gain in top end. not worth it to me. so the smaller tubes will do just fine
