My oldest son is an 8th grader that turns 15 in September. He's always liked helping me work on the Mustangs I've had. I came across this car and thought it would be the perfect car to put some TLC into and a paint job. It's a 92 Tbird Sport with the HO 5.0 motor. It has 110,000 miles on it and is pretty darn clean. The major issue is the purple color, but that will be changed before it comes out of the garage for him to drive. :)

A few pics from seller, I will get some better one's up tomorrow. ( We pick it up tonight )

Yeah, he is pretty jacked up about it. I hope he can keep his mind on pitching in his game tonight before we pick the car up. lol

His grades have always been great and he's an all around good kid, big reason why I decided to do this for him.

As much as I would want a son to get into cars, I wouldnt get him something quick for his 1st car. I drove my 1st car like a craziac which was a 5-speed taurus sho..

You are doing the absolute correct thing, and adding to a bond between you guys. My son is 17 and has gone mid 9s in the quarter, so teaching them to RESPECT power early is a great thing.
Only problem is....
Thunderbirds suck!!:goof
Let me know if you have any questions, I'll be glad to help you out:thumbsup

Every kid is different and mine has shown responsibilty enough for me to warrant this car. I was on crotch rockets when I was 16, so I feel this is a bit safer. :thumbsup

Honestly, I think this is an awesome choice. Not only will it be a great project for him to work on with you, but he will also have a huge amount of respect for the car and the power that I am sure it will make. More often than not, the ones who just beat the hell out of the cars and drive like the tools on highway are the ones who just had the keys handed over to them when they became 16. The ones who actually worked on the car or paid their own money for the car are the ones who are more careful with them.

A LOT safer.

Cool project...are you guys going to take it to the track for baseline times?

We could do that if we have a day off this summer. We're not going to do too much in the performance area other than the basic intake and stuff like that. I think it's quick enough for him the way it is, I just want to make sure it's mechanically sound ( good suspension parts etc.) and do the body prep and paint. The car is in really good shape besides a suspension noise in the front driver's side and a small tranny fluid leak that hits the exhaust and smokes a bit. New tires on it and he's including the original Thunderbird rims as well as the ones on the car. I think some window sticker removal and a good cleaning and this thing would be real respectable. :headbang

Just got home with the car and can't wait to clean it up tomorrow. I will take some good photos after it's cleaned up tomorrow.

Just add a procharger and he'll be happy! :rolf

Great choice!

I remember when my dad and I picked up my Mustang when I was 16... Oh I was fucking estatic! Then I went and did a buncha burnouts... :rolf

Well it's a good thing he didn't get anything quick for him then.
:goof

congrats on the purchase. Teach him to respect the road and the car that drives on it. He'll learn. BTW that should make a great project. It's not a rocket ship but will get him to point b. Plus it has some potential. Good luck!

You're probably right...but I think it'd be a cool experience for him anyways.

Though, it also might be humbling too...he'll think he has a slow car when it's not too bad at all, lol. But the reality is he'd learn/know more about cars on that single day, AND learn what responsible driving is by racing at the track, not street than many other things could teach him.

It's too bad he'd still be too young (iirc) to take down the track in the passenger seat. :(

I would think performance wise, just headers/basic upgrades like a CAI, timing changes/chip, and maybe a change of gears would be all I'd want to do with that thing anyways...decent increase in performance for not too much cost.

Can't find the pass. age rule on the GLD site, but that would be a blast if he could ride with me a few times. He's been at the track a few times with me when I ran my '90lx and '05GT and really enjoyed it.
