My wife is resting comfortably after 3 plus hours of neck surgery.God answered my prayers as well as all of your's.She had 3 disc's removed and fused .The DR. Told me the surgery went better than anticipated and said she will recover great.
I can't remember the last time I was this nervous.
Special thank's to Eric,Yoo and family and everyone else that called and texted today.
I am happy to consider you all part of my family.
Coop.

ugh nothing worse then tear filled eyes from pain.i wanna go cut myself. One thing i will say is the staff and rooms here are outstanding tho. They are doing all they can to make her comfortable but there are only so many drugs they can give at a time.i told her I would take the pain if I could.she said I should do that lol I think she is getting hammered high already lol

Do you know what they are giving her for pain? IF it's codeine and she's not getting much if any relief, she may be 2D6 deficient...2D6 is an enzyme that roughly 10% of whites don't possess....so they are unable to break codeine down to morphine, and thus get little pain relief. If her pain levels are as high as they seem to be, a different class of drugs that don't require the 2D6 enzyme, such as straight up morphine I believe. Codeine is really more of a "pro-drug" in that your body metabolizes it into a drug form that it can use...whereas morphine is already in that form, obviously, and no further breakdown by the body is required.

a lot of times doctors and nurses just attribute the high pain cases not to pain, but to lack of pain tolerance...but in cases described like your wife, it's usually something more insidious.

The only reason I know about this is that I ghost wrote an article for a pharmacist regarding pain control and enzyme testing leading to more successful outcomes.

Demorall seemed to be the only thing that helped me when I was in the hospital, but when it wears off it hurts like a son of a gun. Coop, I am glad that she is doing better, and if there is anything that you guys need or want, just say the word. You guys were there for me, now it is my turn to do so in return.

Well we are home, she was released this afternoon,I got her home and realized quickly that she needed some pills or we were both gonna be in trouble. Went and filled the prescriptions. got her comfortable and retreated to the man cave lol.
Again thanks everyone.
