Took the Lil' Red Truck to Great Lakes Dragaway
Aside from a mild shift kit in the 727 and an aftermarket manifold (to run a holley 600 carb), it's fairly stock. Stock exhaust manifolds and a puny stock cam, stock 3.55 gears with an 9 1/4 rear end.
I have to say, I was fairly pleased...the engine runs out of steam at a measely 4500rpm (It runs out of steam in the 2.45:1 first gear at ~ 43mph with 275/60R15 and the 3.55 gears) but I still managed a respectable 15.4 @ 87 mph...w/ 2.2 60' times. It comes on very strong...but then loses it a bit as the speed builds.
I told my Dad that despite being much slower than the valiant, it was far more fun to drive.
I wanted baseline times...I plan on ported heads and an increase in cam size from stock 19x @ .050 up to ~ 214 @ .050, and of course, headers for the time being. A big cam 408 is in the future...
My dad watched and said he got a kick from the reaction and rooting my truck got when I'd run...seemed people in the stands really liked the old girl.
I got three runs in...third one I took my Dad along with. It was hilarious...I think the start startled him, as he reached out to hold on as we went...I guess he's getting old, lol. That third run probably would have been my fastest if he wasn't in (he's 230+) as it was not far off the 15.4 I ran earlier, and 1 mph slower.
Also happy with my lights...first time up in 2 years netted a .179, then a .055, and then a redlight of -0.0xx...
