View Full Version : Opinions needed on exhaust

I'm looking to order a catback system for my 95 Cobra. Not really looking to spend top dollar, just want to get something decent. The question I really have is what is the opinion on running dumps on these cars? Pretty cheap to do, but I wanted to get some opinions because I don't see many people running them.

Otherwise, if someone has something that sounds cool let me know what to order! :goof

Thanks

i liked the borla on my pushrod.

I loved Borla on my 05 too, but I don't really want to spend $700+ on a catback for this car.

Hey bro. PM 95_Gt and see what he was running. He has dumps on his and it sounds wicked everytime i cruise with him. I'll shoot him a text in hopes he replies soon but I think he has bassanis too. They really sound tough!

Thanks Kelley, I am really thinking about doing the dumps, but not sure I will like no tailpipes sticking out the rear.

My only thoughts on this would be... Dumps on a convertible?

Personally I'd pony up (no pun intended) and just get a catback or keep searching for one... I think you'll get a better tone out of it.

On my 94, I put an off road H on it with the stock catback and it sounded very good. Most people compared it to Borla and had to look under it to see that it wasn't. Besides being smaller diameter pipes, those mufflers didn't appear to be super restrictive.. it's all those damn cats and resonators....

Dumps on that car will get old fast!

Thanks for the opinions on the dumps. I'm gonna go ahead and order a full catback system later today. I can't find anything decent on ebay or any forums for this car.

Try the ORH with stock mufflers first. You might want an ORH someday anyways and they're probably only about $150 or so.

Well, to be honest I really didn't mind the sound of the stock setup as it was. I will finish taking it apart today and decide if I just want to order the stock muffler or if I want to get the whole catback. I'm not going to replace the h-pipe or anything on this car. I'm not trying to get performance gains or anything, just want to keep it in good mechanical shape.

Jesse's (95_Gt) car is a vert also and his has the dumps setup just before the axle. Its a menacing look when you are behind the car going down the road.

Changed my mind again. lol

The problem was the driver's side muffler broke loose. The rest of the exhaust is solid, so I got everything on the D-side off and I will just find a replacement muffler and get it back together. Thanks for the suggestions guys, but this makes the most sense to me.

Have you thought about getting the Borla mufflers of choice and having your own system made? I mean SLP LM for my car is $700 bucks. I bought two Dynomax Race bullets and a stainless Xpipe. $140 bucks total including labor = excellent exhaust.

I am mulling over just getting some aftermarket mufflers and popping them into the existing system.

I think Magnaflows sound like ass on pushrod engines. I like Spintechs, those will be going on my car when I toss the Flowmasters in the trash, lol.

Just gonna replace the muffler and be done with it. I don't even know if I'll still have this car a week from now anyway. I'm getting the itch for an 05-up again.

Why all the hate for flowmasters? I have a BBK o/r x-chamber and flowmasters and my car is pretty much the best sounding mustang ever.

I absolutely hate my flowmasters. They drone like crazy and they sound like half the other Mustangs out there. Spintechs arent expensive at all, $80 a piece.

I dunno - I have flows and love it with the o/r H.

If I had it any other way - it would be Borla Stingers with an o/r X.

Ok, my oldest talked me into doing the full catback so we are going out in a bit to take off the pass. side stuff. I would really like to be able to have a system on the car by Tuesday, any ideas? I really don't want to pay overnight shipping if I don't have to.

I know that being vehicle specific, I'm pretty much stuck ordering online unless someone knows of a shop that has something.

They do sound great! Get 2 pro streets and weld em in the place of the stockers.

Ordered the "played out" Flowmaster American Thunder catback. It should be here Wed. or Thurs. and I will post my opinion of it after the install.

I ordered a catback at my sons urging because he is under the delusion that he will be driving this car when he gets his license. haha. Didn't want to spend a ton because like I said earlier, I could be driving something else next week. That's just the impulse shopper in me I guess. lol
