Lol. Yeah I don't know if they were considered leaders, but their designs were far superior to most of what they have now.

I remember the buzz was crazy when the 300M came out.

Lol. Yeah I don't know if they were considered leaders, but their designs were far superior to most of what they have now.

I remember the buzz was crazy when the 300M came out.Generally from 94-2003. When you look at what automotive journalist were saying about them then, as well as a model to model comparisons of the time, yeah, it's pretty clear that they were the leaders in pretty much every segment in terms of design. During those times, chrysler was far and away the most profitable of the big 3, despite it remaining in third place in total sales.

But the particular cars that really set-off the auto-critics in terms of design:

92 Dodge Viper
94 Dodge Ram
94 LH-cars (Intrepid, Concorde, Vision, New Yorker)
97 Plymouth Prowler
98 LH cars (Intrepid, Concorde, LHS)
99 Chrysler 300M
01 Pt Cruiser

But there were other design (and sales) sucesses as well, setting themselves apart from their general competitors:

94 Neon
95 Cloud cars (Cirrus/Breeze/Stratus)
96 Sebring Convertible
96 Caravan, Voyager, Town & Country
01 Sebring Sedan and coupe, as well as the dodge counterparts.

Largely on the strength of their design Chrysler vehicles were awarded 4 of the 7 MT "car-of-the-year" b/w 1995-2001. Chrysler was really on a roll until diamler stepped in and raided their cash and gutted their engineering...and also decimated their design teams.

It really is a shame what they've become. Even with what they have lined up for the next 5 or so years I don't see them turning things around. The 500 will no doubt go a long way, but that's still 2 years away. The Sebring/Avenger replacement can't come soon enough. And despite the 200C Concept being well received it doesn't sound like that the car they are going to base it off of now because their switching all their cars over to Fiat platforms by 2014. But hey, they are reporting that they will break even in 2010, so maybe they can change things around.

my girlfriends got an avenger the styling was there but the performance sucks. doing a distibutor sucks crazy expensive and you usually have to replace the crank sensor at the same time no idea why but two i've seen had to do that to make it run correctly. I have seen a guy put in a turbo 4G63 and an awd system now that i would rock :) and i still don't like red just my way of life red makes me mad on most cars can't find one i like yet :(
