i remember when the first ZR1 came out. hot rod did a story on it and how much it cost. They said you needed an $80,000 disposable income to afford it. So after taxes, bills, mortgage, etc... you still needed to be making $80,000, hahaha

My dad did a lot of the development work on the first ZR-1 engine when he was with Mercury in Fondy, Merc built those engines, I think it was in 1987. We had a red on red test car for a week in Fondy. When we cruised the gut, the other car guys did not know what it was, until we were gone and they caught us at the next light. That car was fast. I think it was the first car to also have the skipshift feature incorporated. If you werent getting on the gas enough, when you shifted out of first, it would go into 4th, for fuel economy reasons.

My brother and I had built 72 and 73 Mach I's with 351C 4bbl, and we could not keep up with that ZR-1.
