Check out http://www.gog.com

It's a site to download DRM free old games like Kings Quest's, Unreal, etc. All of the games have been debugged to run on new OS.

There's a bunch of games on there that brought back memories. Only major series missing that I'd have like to see is the Ultima games.

I guess these could be "old school" if you started pc gaming in like 1996. I had higher hopes, given the description, that i'd be able to pick up some older late80's/early 90's dos based games and stuff like that. I mean shit, they didn't even have commander keen on there that i saw.

There's stuff in there before then. Kings Quest and Might and Magic were in the later 80's.

Plus they are adding all the time it seems like.

I've been getting old school DOS games here: http://www.abandonia.com/ for years.

The old Maniac Mansions, Monkey Island, Leisure Suit Larry, Police Quest, etc. etc.
Has hundreds of games from every genre.

Do they work well?

Anytime I've tried running an old game in dos it moves so fast you can't play the game. You try to take a step forward and you end up across the map.

Yea you have to download a helper app called DOSbox, it's on that site as well. From what I remember, it allows you to control the speed as if you were playing on a 300mhz machine or whatever.

Lolz, I still have my old Duke Nukem 3D disc... as well as the DooMs.

I've been using ports... I got Duke3D to run on XP using something called JFDuke. For DooM I've been using zDoom, which doesnt work on my Win7 laptop, so now I'm using Skulltag, and actually prefer it over zDoom.

DosBox still won't get my Aces of the Pacific/Aces Over Europe/Red Barron games to work. :( Those were EPIC games for their time.
