I am just wondering if tires are safe if they were produced in 2005 and they are brand spanking new?

as long as they're not dried out from sitting in a window display or something, yes

I would only be concerned if it was for a motorcycle or drag slick, owned some old ass tires that I loved on cars.

i agree that if they are not dry rotted and cracking they should be good to go.

I had a tire from 1998 blow a radial this summer. Didn't have many miles and was stored in my garage(s) over the years, not exposed to weather or sunlight, no dryrot visible and properly inflated. Wheels were off the car for many years but on my way to a car show in June near St Louis one radial blew causing the tire to be out of round, near Peru IL :) . Fun times. 2005 I wouldn't have any issues with, my SS's current tires are from 2002 and I certainly don't plan to replace tires every 3-4 years due to age since miles are never an issue.

These tires are from Tire Rack and they are dirt cheap. We are talking $140 a piece for $230 a piece tires. I think I am going to get these. Also they are not slicks they are just extreme summer performance tires.

When I bought my 62 Caddy, it had the original white wall tires on it from 62, I drove the hell out of it w/ those tires

There is a site that can tell the manufacture date of the tires based on the stamp on the side. I didnt think 5 years was still a safe age.

Drag slicks supposedly luse their "stickiness" as the gass' release from the rubber, doubt the same is true with sticky radial's being slicks are purpose built completly different.

I was correct earlier. week and year
U.S. DOT Tire Identification Number
This begins with the letters "DOT" and indicates that the tire meets all federal standards. The next two numbers or letters are the plant code where it was manufactured, and the last four numbers represent the week and year the tire was built. For example, the numbers 3197 means the 31st week of 1997. The other numbers are marketing codes used at the manufacturer's discretion. This information is used to contact consumers if a tire defect requires a recall.

I pulled the trigger. Got 4 Yoko Advan Neova AD07's 225/45/18 for under $500 shipped. They will probably need to be replaced with in a year and a half anyways! :thumbsup
