I've been trying to find the legality of this but i just haven't been able to find the text regarding it.

here is the deal. this spring im planning on going down to florida to road trip back up wisconsin with my grandfather. I would really like to take my xd with me on the trip. I have never taken a checked a firearm at the airport and im not sure if i trust the bagage guys to not destroy my pistol case or possibly loose my pistol. Its a new concept to me I guess. So I'm wondering if I would be better off shipping it down to my grandfathers house? Do i still need to send it through an ffl if i ship it to myself down to his house?

what would you do? maybe somebody here has delt with a situation such as this before?

there was some link I found for traveling with a handgun/gun and it was REALLY well written. Might actually be a link that's in this forum too, just can't remember.

whether you ship it with you on the same plane, or ship it USPS or whatever it is, the same risks are there. I'd personally want it at the gate when I arrived

Go to the airlines web site that you are going to be flying on, there....somewhere will be all the info you need to check it and have it on board.
It is actually quite easy, just need to have an airline approved locking case to have it in, and it must be checked in, not carry on.

well i knew its something to be checked in! :goof

coops brother... wondering if I where to ship it down there do need to send it to an ffl or if I can just send it to his house and have it addressed to me. I'm not transfering it to somebody elses obviously. So I really wouldn't need an ffl. I may just check it.. just weighing my options i know im going to fly southwest so bags fly free. I would think a checked firearm would fly free:)

regardless. just trying to find the text.
