----- Ok, After doing some more research I have changed my mind from a TKO600 to a T-56, so if you have a t56 from a 93-97 LT1 Camaro/Trans Am let me know -----

I have a 1989 Trans Am GTA that I am going to convert from a 700r4 to a T56 and I'm looking for these parts.

Center console shifter trim plate from a 87-90 Firebird preferably a Trans Am GTA 5 speed car.

Lower shifter boot for 84-92 Firebird or Camaro

Clutch pedal assy from an 84-97 Firebird or Camaro.

Email info, pics, and price at smkngta@aol.com

Thanks

tko-600 ? is that the same as a T56 6 speed?

I suggest hitting the boneyards then you can grab all the other little parts your going to need for the swap. There are a couple of sensors in the pedals for the clutch and break, make sure you grab the end of the wiring harness going into them.

When I did my swap I got most of that stuff from a few of the cars at Al's

A tko600 is an aftermarket 5 speed made by Tremec. Its rated at over 600 ft lbs of TQ. A lot of people put them behind big blocks in there hot rods and muscle cars. I thought about doing a t56 but they are more expensive for a new stock unit then this new built unit costs and they are a little easier to install.
I figured I would end up going to some just yards for parts but I wanted to try this too since you know what someone might have laying in the garage.

Did you do a manual conversion on Iroc in your sig? If so, what kind of tranny did you install and what motor do you have?

Yeah mine started out as the 350 / 700R4, swapped out the auto for a T56 and did some work to the 350.

The wiring is the biggest pain in the ass of the whole swap, the rest is pretty straight forward.

davemc on the boards has lots of thirdgen parts. And I remember seeing an add on craigslist with lots of f-body parts around Racine recently.

I have a post on thirdgen.org for the parts Im looking for, I remember seeing some third gen parts on craiglist, there was a real nice complete center console but it was an Auto. I posted a wanted ad on craigslist as well.

ponykiller87- Yeah I figured the wiring would be the biggest pain, the rest should just be nuts and bolts. How do you like your t56? I considered buying a used trans since they are half the price of a new tko600 which is $2195, but Im kind of leary of buying a $800-$1000 tranny that I havent driven.

For the console I think you only need the top plate, i have one for when I do my swap, one of these decades....

Yea I think you are right, the rest of the console should be the same. Let me know if you decide to keep your automatic and I'll buy your shifter plate.

I love the T56, before deciding to go that route I went and test drove a few 4th gens to see how I liked it.

I got mine by buying a wrecked car on ebay and parting it out. In the end I made money on the deal. Currently mine is sitting in the garage waiting to be rebuilt, which I think I am going to try and tackle myself after reading some tech articles online.

Ive driven both LT1 and LS1 t56s and they feel nice. They are just so expensive for a new trans that is only rated at 450ft-lbs. I could buy a used t56 from a bone yard that would come with a warranty. I replaced a 5 speed trans from a bone yard 3 times (bad bearings) before I got a good one about 6 years ago in my old s10. It was a pain in the ass to keep swapping them out but atleast I didn't get stuck with a bad one.

Ive been on 5speedtransmissions.com, they have a lot of good information.

I have an lt1 t56 with bell and flywheel I'd let go for 850.

I might be interested in that. Do you have any pics? Is there anything wrong with it? How many miles, what year, what kind of car is it out of? Send me an email at smkngta@aol.com with the info.

Thanks

I love T56's and i regularly rebuild them too if you end up going that way, they run about 1K for a good used one, and about 4-500 with work needed. You will prob need a LT1 style T56 if you go that route since its the most SBCI like and the hydraulics may be easier to adapt than and LS-type T56.

I am leaning towards doing a t56 swap now that I have been reading into it more. The TKO600 is a great trans but by the way it looks it would cost a good $1500 more then a t56 swap and T56's aren't too expensive to rebuild if I had to. I was planning on a LT1 style trans since the hydraulics are a direct swap from a 4thgen LT1 car into a 3rd gen. They look to be anywhere from 700-1000 for a good trans from what i have found so far.

I no longer need a trans. I got a T56 from Kory88IrocLT1.

I'm still looking for some pedals though
