More of us are popping out of the wood work, so lets see what you drive! Here's mine. This is the older body, I'll have to get some recent pics.
Pretty much this is my Traxxas Slash. Loaded with anodized and rpm up grades. As well as a Novak Havoc system. Runs real good. I think my driver does more then I do though!

how much do the brushless trucks cost new? like a full set up.. walk into a hobby shop walk out with everything you need... can these trucks pull the front tires off the ground out of the box? or do you need upgrades to do this?
how long is the battery good for and how long to recharge? what about the motors? do they last more than a year?

I don't think they're made to pull the tires. Given the suspension/tires I dunno if it's even possible. If you wanna pull tires get a <$100 Traxxas Emaxx. I could be wrong.

for a beginner, i would reccomend a 'rustler vxl'. very easy to work on, and can be had used w/ upgrades for 1-250$

How much power it has deffinitly depends on the battery. with a low quality battery, mine (rustler vxl) could wheelie for about 20 feet, and go roughly 25-30mph for about 10-15minutes then die slowly.
with a pretty good battery, the same setup (only thing changed was battery) my truck could do a wheelie even if i was going 50mph+, and had a top speed of roughly 60-70mph(hell, itll do a wheelie all the way to top speed if i let it) the good battery lasts between 30minutes for nothing but top speed back and forth runs, to an hour or more in the woods.

begginners should stick to 6-8cell 'low quality' batterys and work there way up to Lipo's (high quality).

i have 2 rustler vxls, (traxxas) and know a ton about them!

i HIGHLY reccommend the rusty vxl if you dont neccessarly want to drop a ton of $ on 4wd. the 'local' parts availability is good too.

If your interested could help you out on what upgrade parts are ''neccessary'' for bashing. A good place to start, and look for a -used- truck, is either www.traxxas.com (http://www.traxxas.com) or http://www.ultimaterc.com/forums/

and FYI: " VXL " is "Traxxas" version of there brushless trucks (velineon)

Batteries:

more voltage = more speed
more "mAH" = longer lasting ('5000' and up, is considered a larger battery) (my 'pretty good' battery is a 13.1v 5000mAh lipo, and it was like $100+ itself.)

oh and i would 100% reccommend buying USED /RANT

^^ thanks for the info.. I'm not a beginner so to say as far as RC trucks go.. i had a gas powered one for 2 years and upgraded lots of the plastic pieces for aluminum ones and did the exhaust and what not. but i am a beginner as far as the electric ones go.
as i see it they are easier to maintain and don't have tuning issues in cold/hot/humid weather.

i would like to get back into it with something that i can mess around in the yard and in parking lots and what not.

a regular slash at track side out the door with the 2.5 Ghz radio will run you about $209 with a battery. your still going to need extra batteries and batteries for the remote also a battery charger thats not a wall charger that takes 3 hours to charge.

I dunno my .21 Tmaxx was funny doing wheelies for a while then it got old. Some new rear springs took care of the wheelies and it became a fun truck on the track again. :D
