For a good bit I thought I had one nailed down as Im sure tony did too. I tried to get his bike for a bit and had it all lined up to get the clean ass 600 he posted on here but when it came down to it the wifey simply said no. Timing was there on both sides so the money didnt match up.

When things got lined up on my side a little better I found a 98 Suzuki GSXR 750 on craigslist

I brought it into the apartment to clean it up but the job is HUGE so couldnt finish in one night. Hell, I only got the right side aluminum cleaned up. Havent even touched the plastics. It will be right when I am done but the previous owner either didnt know how to clean or just didnt do it.

Ill fix that.

Awesome!

I had a '97 750 in white/blue. They are so much fun! And the balance point for wheelies is very easy to find, haha.

How long have you been riding?

I'll be able to answer that better after this summer and the MSF course.

You can save all of the "shouldnt have gotten that for a first bike" I have been researching this stuff since october and have several buddies who can come help at any time and are already helping me out 2 of them are on this board pork & kornholio.

I am not going into this blind so I'll become a youtube video. I bought all of my gear first with helmet, gloves, leather jacket, boots.

The wifey isnt completely happy but she knows I'll take it the safest I can with having Hannah around the house.

It will be fast, but nothing absolutely crazy being its a 98. I'm guessing about 100-105 to the tire. Looks like it's in pretty good shape, can't wait to get my bike out.

On your first riding session I agree. Get some ride time under your belt before you go on a group ride. Also before you go on your first group ride read the AOM thread on group ride rules. Most of the rules on there aren't followed but a good read anyway. And makes you a safer group rider.

they handle awesome, and are a bit heavier compared to today's 600 counterparts, so that horsepower to weight ratio is still in favor for a newer bike. And because of how popular they were, parts are very easy to find. I loved that bike.

Put a Wiseco big bore kit in mine and was 130rwhp. Lots of fun. Nowadays it seems like some modified 600's are up to there, haha

That's srad! Nice. I got rid of mine to get the Mustang. Most important thing is take the course and get at least 500 miles of riding out in the country before you ride in a group or in the city. Learn the bike and be comfortable. Nice to stop by friends, but better to take it easy on your own time without someone else driving irradic near you.

Eh, everyone thinks they "know how to handle horsepower" coming from a car to a bike or "can respect the bike's power better than most." I won't give a speech about it but go to the site:
http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/index.php?
under new rider forum, check out some of the stickies. Lots of good info there.

i bout one similar to that from pork. was a decent bike while i had it and sold it for just shy of what i paid for it. good starter bike but it was slammed to the ground (thanks eric :goof) so i fixed the height up a bit and learned on that without the msf course. about 6 months after i sold it i got a 2001 gsxr600 and took the msf course and learned even more. riding in groups still make me a little erie but thats just cuz i don't know what there going to do if i'm riding with just a few friends i know how they ride so i'm not so worried about it.

Like I said, did my research and went thru this all already but thanks. there are 14 stickies for new riders that I completely read thru each one on a different site. I also have the book total control by lee parks as well as went through a few youtube and internet videos.

i took mine at wctc all tho we were kinda just screwing around on the rebels once we hit the course. we had some good teachers they were cool. We had a black girl take off flying across the lot. lol thought she was gana smash the wall. later her friend must not have pulled in the clutch wen stoping and the bike fell on top of her. honestly i don't think either of those two should ever be on a bike but all they look for is improvment they told us. so they got there licenses. maybe it was just that i had ridden before the course that it just made everyone else look so dumb. I probably looked that bad at one point in time.

^^^ same here. Some useful techniques, but also a lot of wasted time (if you ridden for a while). My girlfriend dropped the bike she used for the msf every day, yet passed with flying colors. lol
