My roommate's Dad sells machines that do all that. It's way cool in person to see the machines going to town like that on a chunk of aluminum.

X2, I couldn't even imagine how long it took to get the block moving back and forth and the bit doing it's thing at the exact same time

what are they doing 6:30-7:30 ish?

They are just cutting the bore, but they do it that way so that it uses the optimal part of the cutting edge of the cutter. (probably a ball cutter)
