A while back I asked the question about adding a hood scoop and received a resounding "No". Now the question is a bit different. Last year I noticed that there was some bubbling happening under the hood along the seams. By the end of the season it was starting to show on the leading edge of the hood. About three inches wide. Don't ask me why. It's an aluminum hood.

Now...if I'm going to repaint it I'd have to either get a new stripe kit installed or have the painter add "real ones". I talked with CPV, (they've done great work for me before.) They told me to do the hood/stripes and the fenders to complete the job would be about $1300. Not bad I suppose. But an alternative might be to skip the stripes, buy this hood on ebay and paint it black. (Probably the cheaper alternative.)

Take a look and tell me what you think is the better idea.

I think it would look good, but then again, it looks like the hood on my 03 cobra, so I'm a little biased :)

True but thats a rather large amount of money you're talking about dumping. Email them and ask if they have another name they do business with or do a google search on the seller.company/brand?

You can do a carbon fiber hood also. A friend in Brown Deer has one on his 05 vert. Looks amazing and doesn't need paint.

If you really like the fiberglass hood with the vents, look at MRT, Silverhorseracing, Temple Performance or Cervinis.

If you go glass or carbon you WILL need pins. Aero-latch look great on carbon. Or they have a billet hidden hood pin system out there now.

If you don't plan on any more Winters with this car a stock hood will be fine.

I did see one of those too. Wasn't sure what the visual affect would be.

It would match my dash kit then.

another bad with fiberglass hoods is the underside looks like pure ass. All the wrinkles and bubbles and shit. You do attend car shows and when they are up they arent pretty.

I would suggest talking to my buddy Rich at www.gzsigndesigns.com they are located in Roselle and used to be in 7 mile fair they had both shops and would come up on the weekend and stay with his folks.

Anyway, you could get your all black done and he could redo your stripes for you easily with vinyl. He can also do vinyl printing too so you if you wanted to so something cooler in the design of the vinyl you could also.

in my old cavy's hood it looked so bad under there I asked the painter to mask it by painting that too (ignore neons) this isnt about me

WHAMMY! I love that hood on that car.

I also have got to say that I really liked the stripes on your car. While I'm a huge fan of a sexy black car - the stripes really worked well on it.:thumbsup

cervinis is the only place that I would get a glass hood from. They finish the under side, I have bought 5 hoods from them and every hood has been great, my painter loves their products as well.

its important that they measure what you have before you get any work done so they can do it just like you have now

Dianne might answer if you call she is the artist/designer of the two. Rich does the majority of install work. Its probably best to call them they are slow with answering emails 1.630.307.7446

I think as long as you paint part of a carbon fiber hood, they look pretty cool. Paint helps it blend into the car, though.

Interesting. That would be my car wouldn't it?

My wife brought up a good point I didn't think of. The stripes were an Xmas present from my son. After going to a show in Janesville we walked back to my car (at that point without the stripes) and he said, "Dad. Your car is kind of...boring."

I may need to have a conversation with him before making ANY change. :)

A quick update for any other S197 owners out there. I just discovered that there is a TSB on this. TSB 06-25-15. Apparently some hoods were contaminated and are having issues. It appears I'm past my warranty period (3 years 36K) but maybe you aren't. Take a look.

Anyone here work at a Ford dealer and want to tell me they'll honor the TSB as part of the corrosion warranty.

(No it hasn't rotted to the point of having holes in it. I could take the pellet gun to it though.)

Talking to my buddy today and I found out his mom is dealing with this with her '05 Mustang V6. She bought it new and now the paint is flaking due to flaking. She is currently fighting with Ford to get this warrantied.

Just found the same hood at CruzinConcepts. About $25 more but at least they're reputable.

Well...I pulled the trigger. After talking with a couple paint shops, and a Ford dealer, it just made more sense to scrap the thing and start over rather than try to fix it. Found what I liked through CruizinConcepts. A B-429 Vintage hood. I think it looks very 1969. TruFiber actually has a hood that looks exactly like the first hood I posted a link to but I let my son have a vote and we went this way.

It'll just be black. No new stripes at this time. Since the hood is so much different, stripes might not be necessary. They'd probably look over the top really. So anyway, in about three weeks my baby will look like the one below. (Including the hood pins.) If you see me on the road, wave "Hi".

The stock hood looks much better then that.

But hey, it's your car.

This would have been my choice.

The deed is done. I'm probably going to hold off on the hood pins for now. I kind of like the clean look. We also rerouted the windshield washer nozzles. Took them off the hood and added them to the wiper arms. You can barely see them at all.

Anyway, thought I'd post a few pics so this thread can finally close. Nothing artistic. Just a couple shots from the driveway.

Thanks for all the input. I do appreciate it.

Cheers.
