This shows the LS3 block modification to allow a 4.125" stroke, so the connecting rod clears the block.

Mathematical estimates/predictions:
@3000rpm ~ 267HP
@4000rpm ~ 356HP
@5000rpm ~ 445HP
@6000rpm ~ 535HP
@7000rpm ~ 620HP

Should do about 500+ at the crank eh? Insert Borat "Very Nice"Consider that the LS7 with same cubes, a little less compression, a bit less head flow, a significantly smaller camshaft, a slightly worse intake manifold, exhaust that doesn't flow near as well as the headers Andy will have...well, that LS7 makes 505hp; so yeah, 500+ is about as sure a bet as one can make :goof

Ive been melting my brain lately with L92 style headed combos and cam choices... Did this guy give any indication how well it ran prior and was it an EFI application or carbed? That cam you got listed kinda goes against everything thats been discussed on having a wider intake/ex split. These heads create a shit ton of reversion at slow speeds and makes tuning and driveabilty a nightmare, i ran into this same issue on the 70.5 orange camaro that flick took pics of at MP autocross. Smaller cams are making more grunt and have less hassles is what im getting at in other words. Like 230/242 608/612 114+4 for example. Uggh a spec clutch? really? lol

The long block was built by http://www.donhardyracecars.com/. Feel free to pick his brain. I noticed he's now a sponsor on LS1TECH too. The guy who sold it to me had it in a Trail Blazer SS. It had an Edelbrock L92 carb style intake, truck style intake elbow, and LS7 throttle body. He never got the opportunity to run the truck before he ran out of money. By looking at the cylinder walls, I'd guess that pretty true. It's immaculate in there.
Don told the previous owner it "for sure that it will make 550-575 rwhp through a 4l70e. "

parts are looking good. whats the plan for the subframe as far as powder coat/paint goes? couldn't you have gotten it powdercoated at the place you bought it from? or are you going to do all the mock up first then send it out so it doesn't get chipped and messed up?

Cryptic

Will it still have the 50/50 weight ratio?

darn close yes. Rotary is cast iron. LS3 is obviously all aluminum.

Rotary long block is around 400 lbs
Transmission (5 speed) = 112 lbs

LS3 crate engine = 385 lbs
T56 = 125 lbs

Plus all these stock parts are gone.
Powerplant frame - 22.3 lbs.
Pre-catalytic converter - 22.6 lbs.
Catalytic converter - 33.5 lbs.
Cat-back exhaust - 33.6 lbs

whats the plan for the subframe as far as powder coat/paint goes? couldn't you have gotten it powder coated at the place you bought it from? or are you going to do all the mock up first then send it out so it doesn't get chipped and messed up?
I dropped off the subframe this morning at Hy-Tec (http://www.hy-tecpowdercoating.com/) in Waukesha. I talked to the owner Mike for awhile. I might be helping him out with internet/webpage stuff. The fabricator doesn't do any powder coating. As soon as I get it back I'll be putting it in the car. I'm not to worried about mocking anything up. This should be bolt on from here.

I've got another friend building a lsx fd in nw milwaukee, should be done in a few months. We'll have to get the bastard rx7's together this summer :haveabeer

Wheels are going to be completely dependent on how much cash I have left. Priority is to get this thing running, then cage, then paint, then wheels.

Subframe is out. Breaking for dinner. Going to detail the engine bay a tad. And then try to get the Samburg frame in.

$200 because of the extra step for the clear coat. Garage has a big propane heater so I can make it as warm as I want it.

Now get that shit done and take me for a ride. Oh yea, we also gotta do some friendly racing, I'd bet our cars our pretty well matched. Your car is like the hot Asian that got knocked up by some crazy big redneck, while mine is the secretly hot but slow Asian that got knocked up by its big brother :rolf

Not sure if I asked this already but what are your plans for the rear end? I have a friend with an LS1 FC3S and to be honest the final drive is pretty shitty for even the LS1/T56 setup let alone a setup that makes almost twice the horsepower and more than 50% more torque. You will probably want to switch R&P to something a lot longer than the stock 4.XX:1 setup that is in the car now.

I sent my wiring harnesses out to Greg Jones (Pez on the norotors.com forums). He's the resident expert on making all the electrical plug and play. All unnecessary circuits are removed and the relay box is being relocated.

He is also fabbing up my A/C lines and PS lines with a Heidt's variable pressure valve to correct the pressure going to the steering rack.

Dropping in the motor
June 14th, 2010

This was hardly as hard as I thought it would be. It took my girlfriend and I maybe 20 minutes to get the motor in the engine bay and that's with picture taking.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_5Bdw0bCKJkE/TBp-u0WdWkI/AAAAAAAAAyE/sfp_olyTwzw/s800/IMG_3892.JPG

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_5Bdw0bCKJkE/TBp-z6ELu4I/AAAAAAAAAyI/r0Sqj9a2LzY/s800/IMG_3895.JPG

Pushed the engine hoist in slowly till the transmission touched. Then lowered the motor a little, pushed forward, lowered...etc
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_5Bdw0bCKJkE/TBp-2nd4HWI/AAAAAAAAAyQ/SdF3MkslV5c/s800/IMG_3896.JPG

I had no issues with the hoist hitting the hood.

This is as far as I could go with the load leveler on the hoist. The chain was hitting the firewall. I had to switch to just a chain to the motor at this point. I supported the engine with a jack on the oil pan :o and another jack on the trans.

Firewall modification for FAST 102mm (note above picture)

The FAST 102mm intake is deeper (towards firewall) as well as considerably taller. It's going to take some massaging to get it to fit.

After thoroughly bashing the firewall till the FAST 102mm intake cleared the firewall with about an additional ~1/2 inch clearance. My Dad goes to town and does his thing (the body work, actually making it look good again). Removing paint before Bondo goes down to reshape and smooth out the firewall.

Power Steering
As mentioned before, the Power Steering pump from the Cadillac CTS-V kit (Part#: 19155066), there is a clearance issue with the hood and the reservoir. If you remove the cap, you have enough room. It's that close. I haven't quite figure out what I am going to do here yet. I've looked for alternative reservoirs, but still not sure what will work out. Considering cutting the bracket and re-welding lower. There's not a whole lot of room to be gained here though. I ended up making a relocation bracket (not pictured yet).
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_5Bdw0bCKJkE/TTN5Twv9jDI/AAAAAAAABLE/SWqFSW58mlA/s720/IMG00042-20110116-1558.jpg

This pump puts out 1.9-2.1 GPM 1640/1740 psi which is too much for the stock steering rack. I asked Pez Performance for mock up a modification for me using a Heidt's variable valve. I couldn't be happier with how well the fitment worked out!

I'll share some pics on this mod:
Underside of power steering pump. The silver fitting needs to be screwed out so a standard -6AN fitting will go in its place.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_5Bdw0bCKJkE/TTN4y7ZlyvI/AAAAAAAABKw/M-S2ZFnKjyg/s720/IMG00037-20110116-1550.jpg

Pez Performance sent me a straight barb fitting which goes to the return side of the steering rack, This turned out to be to close for comfort as it was right next to the back of the alternator (which again is part of the Cadillac CTS-V kit (Part#: 19155066). Simple solution to replace with a 45 degree hose barb fitting.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_5Bdw0bCKJkE/TTN40_QGOuI/AAAAAAAABLA/lB09Kf8gexE/s512/IMG00041-20110116-1557.jpg

Use this M6 hole for the mounting bracket. This turns out to be a perfect open spot for the Heidts valve. Conveniently the hole is already there and tapped
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_5Bdw0bCKJkE/TTUJ91TQlRI/AAAAAAAABOU/4eMUHm9asrg/s512/IMG00048-20110117-1439.jpg

The stock banjo bolt and power steering line (high pressure) is removed. As I said above the return side fitting (bottom) gets too close to alternator (CTS-V accessory kit) so I swapped out for a 45 degree hose barb fitting which works out nice.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_5Bdw0bCKJkE/TTN4zAcXtmI/AAAAAAAABLk/8C6uS-CV9J8/s720/IMG00038-20110116-1555.jpg

On the pump side a modification is needed to the power steering pump pulley. 1-2mm needs to be shaved off the backside of the pulley to make clearance for the AN fittings. I put the power steering pump (still attach to bracket) in a vise and used an air dremel with a grinding disc. I held the grinder steady as a third hand slowly spun the pulley. The results were perfect.

That power steering reservoir is just a tad too tall in its stock location. I'll post a pic of the bracket I made to get it to clear. It's forcing me to make another bracket to move a relay box though. pain in the ass. All takes time, trying to figure out how to make it work with what I have available to me in my garage.

I must say this has to be one of the best builds I've ever seen. Not only are you (with the help of friends/family) doing the work yourself, the work you're doing looks like something that would come out of a shop. From what I've followed every move you make on the car is well researched and planned out. Can't wait to see what the car looks/sounds like when finally done.

We also have the LS400 Supernova and a LPH440 (primer gun). Certainly a step up over the old Binks 7 and 18's we used in the past. There is little to no overspray what so ever.
I wiped down the firewall twice with a Degreaser/Wax remover. I can believe we still got two little fisheyes. Luckily, the fisheyes blended right out on the second coat.

We have two brand new respirators, Dad didn't care to put one on for this quick job. It's not like the old paint guns that clouded up the whole garage. Could hardly smell paint. Amazing guns!

Engine harness, intake and throttle body are done.

The hood required some trimming of some of the bracing. The hood is still touching on the LSXr lettering, but is damn near flush with the fender lines. Perhaps I can cheat it a bit with some washers to raise the rear of the hood. 2nd option is to dremel off the lettering on top the intake. Maybe both to get it to fit without any touching of the hood.

I also want to note that the Fast 102mm throttle body fits under the hood fine. However, I did have to trim the lower left corner to make it clear my Meziere electric water pump.

I pretty much used every last millimeter under the hood. :wooo

Labor Day Weekend fun

I nearly spent the whole 3 day weekend working on the car. Ran into a lot of things to overcome. First was getting the damn LS1 computer to fit in the passenger kick panel and the blower fan in place. Wasted so much time with that. I don't have a whole lot of play in my harness so it's not in there all that pretty for now.

Next I had to do something about my A/C compressor line was touching the frame rail.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-npakYAzOHg8/TlRtpOarYhI/AAAAAAAAB68/3TvMZHx_f6g/s800/IMG_1141.JPG

My measurements of the A/C compressor mounting bracket. I ended up grinding off .200" of an inch off the bracket (facing the A/C compressor) and another tid bit off the backside facing the engine block.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-SluWaXTqD8g/TmfFfCOruiI/AAAAAAAAB-w/DWPS7XtttO4/s800/IMG_1157.JPG

Slightly more comfortable with this clearance.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-rtUQG679qrc/TmfFtsg-9FI/AAAAAAAAB-0/GpAq_Z_C2GA/s800/IMG_1156.JPG

Next up was getting the condenser mounted.
Samberg designed the condenser to have the large connector at the top of the radiator and the small connector on the bottom. Pez's A/C kit runs the opposite and requires some drilling and grinding so the condenser's ports center correctly. (The inside hole's I drilled, black marker was just to mark all the possibilities.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KFXXDMn2fAA/Tme8BG-TBvI/AAAAAAAAB-E/bQSuzX-JPb4/s800/IMG_1147.JPG

I had to squeeze in the radiator shroud just a little bit to get the drilled holes to match up and have enough material to hold.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-4wWnJi6fQ-M/Tme8DQ6QobI/AAAAAAAAB-Y/fq5nE4Xr2O8/s800/IMG_1148.JPG

So both condenser ports were centered I had to do some grinding. I marked my cuts with a dry erase marker and proceeded with the air dremel.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-DYHhIn8uZcY/Tme8FaqZKtI/AAAAAAAAB9o/2C7I5o6A5wA/s800/IMG_1144.JPG

After air dremel.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-85yvMDhvWkg/Tme8JE9Kw2I/AAAAAAAAB9s/N7bfJWG9xa8/s800/IMG_1145.JPG

Aluminum dust everywhere from the shroud and especially the A/C bracket.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-YOUDt5AeOvo/Tme8MYvQLXI/AAAAAAAAB9w/UuNvtWnOR84/s800/IMG_1146.JPG

A much better line up of the lower A/C condenser port.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-N_qWwNJMzlc/Tme8PDezw3I/AAAAAAAAB90/n7bDuNBkuNQ/s800/IMG_1149.JPG

And a look at how the upper port lines up.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-EQqMRntV4xI/Tme8Rkd6amI/AAAAAAAAB94/kjrSUZDRK1g/s800/IMG_1150.JPG

Next I correctly installed the radiator with the provided nutserts (no clue how I missed this originally). I actually had no clue how to go about this having never used them before.

How to install a nutsert install without a rivot gun.
(Used for Samberg Radiator mounting holes). I used a 1/2" drill bit to make the whole in the frame rail and I lightly tapped the nutsert in with a hammer. You'll need one 2" 5/16-18 bolt, 1" 5/16-18 coupler, and 2 washers. Screw down the bolt and coupler most of the way down leaving a small gap between bolt head and coupler. Hold the bolt in place while going counter-clockwise with the coupler and it will crush the nutsert into place. I think this is the only place in the whole car where I needed SAE wrenches.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-6F7kGlBdgPA/TmfVuRsUKMI/AAAAAAAAB_A/RBYnEk7EUEg/s800/nutsert_install.JPG
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Vo4bJ3rLhBg/TmfYMsoa7WI/AAAAAAAAB_M/CTGQPbO2auI/s720/nutsert_in_frame_rail.JPG

I did all that and a bunch of boring wire management is how I spent my holiday weekend. :yay:

That, and some harvesting from the garden. Several hours pickling.

more progress...

This weekend I removed the brake pedal, steering column, and rear bins from the donor car. Took that opportunity to shampoo the carpeting twice from the donor RX7... gross. Ahh, that new car smell now :)

But before I can get the battery in I had to finish the sound deadening in at least to the rear bins. Again I am using Second Skin "Damplifier Pro". My ass was beat after being hunched over in the car all day and my finger tips were bloody from microscopic cuts installing this stuff.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-F9q5krPlrtY/TndEUfqk2WI/AAAAAAAACAo/3_BE94DN7vc/s800/IMG_8785.JPG

Installed the ABS, brake master cylinder, clutch master cylinder, and moved back the power steering reservoir to stock location with plans to install a cowled hood for more clearance for that and the intake. The relay box is now able to be in stock location with the power steering reservoir move back.

I have to do some test fitting with the seats yet. I also have to lay down Luxury Liner Pro (thick mat) yet.

I think it's more important to just cover areas that are not reinforced to reduce vibration. I think I have enough to cover every sq inch though.

Billet aluminum battery tray (from ebay) in rear bin. I like this one becuase their isn't metal near the terminals on top. It holds the battery from the base. It's an awfully pretty piece that will never be seen inside the bin, but I'll know it's there.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VAo3Bu3PMQ0/TokJl-T2nPI/AAAAAAAACDQ/FYqNTcGsEvA/s800/IMG_8820.JPG

Finally got the battery, ground cable, and 200A circuit breaker. My alternator is 150A. I hope I made the right choice in amperage on the circuit breaker. The wire from the circuit breaker to the "starter>alternator>fuse box" is only 4 gauge which I know is a bit undersized for 200A. Ground and Battery>circuit breaker is 2 gauge. The 2ga is cutoffs from work used in telecom wiring (48v DC). Very stiff and hard to work with, but it was free.

Anyone else ever have the moment of truth when you connected the battery (and closed the breaker) and ran around the car and made sure nothing was smoldering or on fire? :headbang :banana1: :)

Yeah I had a set back with the leaky slave cylinder, had to drop the trans. Tony and I have it down to a science now, but I don't want to have to do it again. So much shit has to come off before the trans can drop.

I've been fighting a cold all week and don't care to be in the garage much. Enjoying the shit out of my F250 for now :)

Its always something... HP Tuners gave an error trying to program. We have to email the error to HP Tuners. Tom (BADLS1) said this isn't the first time this has happened.

Also had an issue with my ODBII port. Pin 16 (Battery) was ground and not 12v. Had to cut the wire and run a jumper.

So I'm dead in the water till we hear back from HP Tuners.

My GoPro Hero2's microphone dampens the sound quite of bit. I'm going to look into an external mic that sounds more realistic. Anyway... Here is the first time my RX-7 idled. We had to change the VIN in the PCM to match the year of the OS or HP Tuners wouldn't do anything with the PCM. The PCM was previously molested by EFILive.

Thanks Tom (BADLS1)!

Gotta give him credit though..It's not like he just dropped a motor in the car. He pretty much redid the WHOLE car by himself with the help of his father. And if I remember correctly didn't his dads garage burn down last year, resulting in the lost of a lot of tools that were needed to work on the car.

I had to switch to spare tire/rims up front so the wheels would clear the tie rods ends. They just grind the inside of the stock 16's but clear the spare tires. Good thing I have two of them. I still haven't pick out wheels. I'm so indecisive. That and I am not thrilled about spending 4 grand on the ones I DO like.

I'm all loaded up and ready to go get exhaust made up. Gettin' the itch to drive this damn thing, but there's still a lot of work to be done.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wu6FDddikLI#ws&hd=1

I was originally going to build a Y pipe to my Apexi N1 catback I already have, but it shrinks down to 2.5" inside the muffler. I'm hoping for about 550 to 600hp once I'm tuned, so I don't think the Y-pipe to Apexi N1 is going to cut it.

Based on motors usually need 2.2 CFM per HP and I'm hoping for 600HP, that means I need at least 1320 CFM.
Dual 3" would flow 1625 CFM so that should cover it. (base on this http://www.exhaustvideos.com/faq/how-to-calculate-muffler-size-pipe-diameter/)

So I thought I would do a dual 3" X-pipe like the another RX7 swap I read about.

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l55/Kevin_Doe/RX-7/ExhaustOnFloor1.jpg

I asked the owner his impressions of the setup and he said "It's incredibly loud. Like open header loud moved to the back of the car."

So maybe one of these in place of an traditional X-pipe to keep things a little more civil...
It's a muffler with a built in X-pipe, or resonated x-pipe...
PART#: 12599 (http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=main&id=9393)
Body Shape: 5in.x11in. Oval
Inlet/Outlet Size: 3in./3in.
Body Length: 22in.
Overall Length: 28in.
Core Size: Dual 3in.
Position: Dual/Dual

Features and Benefits: Straight-Through Wide-Open Performance, Reversible, Tru-X Perforated Core,
http://images.magnaflow.com/02product/parts/12599.jpg

Only image I could find of Tru-X design (ignore not 3")
http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/2139/magnaflowxpipedrawing.png

I got under the car and measured. It's maybe 12" at the widest and narrows as you go up and changes as you go towards the rear of the car. Would be really hard to tell without buying one first and trying to mock it up.

Magnaflow has a 5in.x8in. (Part #12469 (http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=main&id=9378)) but it's not a Tru-X Perforated Core but a straight-through muffler. So maybe one of these after a traditional X-pipe would work.

I asked Ron (juicedimpss) about my idea of putting a mid-muffler after the X-pipe...
Here's what he said:

1.) Ground clearance will suck balls with the muffler up front.
2.) The more pipe you add after a muffler, the more it will rap like the old glass packs.

For #1, I think we can tuck a 5in.x8in. (Part #12469) muffler pretty well (better than the originally suggested 5in.x11in. Oval)
For #2, I'm not sure if that is really a bad thing or not?

I found an example of Pypes exhaust doing this on a 2010 Camaro. I didn't hear anything undesirable about it. In fact, I think I like it.

the mid muffler setup sounds great on the L99 and the LS3

I posted both exhaust systems from Kevin Doe because he does do quality work.

Ron from Clocks Off Racecars helped me yesterday order the parts to do a modified version of Kevin's original Dual 3" Stainless x-pipe setup. I'm basically adding a midmuffler and not doing bullets in the rear.

Here's the plan:

Dual 3" 304 stainless, fully tig welded
Magnaflow stamped Tru-X x-pipe (http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=main&id=9838) -> Magnaflow 5in.x8in. (Part #12469) (http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=main&id=9378) for a mid-muffler -> 2 x Magnaflow 5in.x8in. Andy,
Why did you decide on a LS3 427? Did TSP build short block? I have read some negative things on LS1tech about the long 4.10" stroke. Based on these facts I went with an iron 408. I am now doubting myself on the smaller 408 vs the 427. Can't wait to see it!

Cryptic
04-04-2012, 01:19 PM
Don Hardy Racecars built the short block. I wanted to stay aluminum for weight reasons. When I got the block, which was around Feb 2010 there wasn't much said about the 427. We'll just have to wait and see if there are any issues. The block is modified to give additional clearance for the length of the stroke.

Contents of the Lingenfelter TRG-002. Most notable difference between this model and the TRG-001A is the unit has a dedicated +12v supply and ground. It also came with some fire sleeve to protect the "Crank In" wires which gets very close to headers and starter.

New location for the Lingenfelter TRG-002.Wiring is all fed under the ABS and behind the engine, along the firewall. Minimal heat and easier to see the status LED in this position. Still need to route the +12v to a switched 12volt. (Most likely to X-05 at passenger foot well)
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-rshuZ9RaQW8/T6ARPjE_b6I/AAAAAAAADGg/UuCX84MZu6g/s800/IMG_1582.JPG

And since I had the intake off this was a good time to plumb in a remote oil pressure sender. This setup will work with my factory gauge.

After chasing fuel pressure issues I shifted my attention back to the body work. I was really trying to be ready for SNS 2012 in October, but that didn't work out. I changed jobs and cashed in 3 weeks of vacation I could of used working on the car. With my schedule the way it is, I really only have time on Sundays to work on the car. So the next couple months was slow going, but steady progress.

Aug 17, 2012 - Burnout Front bumper
Lining up and drilling holes for these bumper-to-fender brackets is a ****ing process. You really only get one shot to get it right. Lots of drilling 1/64th at a time to get the holes exact.

Aug 20, 2012 - Tech2 Carbon Fiber hood test fit

First, let me comment on the overall finish of this piece. There are waves and pits in the clear coat. If the light hits it right, it just looks, well something you would hate to spend $1250 shipped to your door for. The underside is unfinished to some extent. Not show quality at all. Not sanded down smooth in some areas so you can see the mold marks and painted flat black, no clear coat. The topside from 10ft away it looks pretty nice till you put your nose to it.
I used the stock hood in the original factory position to align my Burnout front fenders. The hood wasn't even close. You have to drill the hood hinge holes and oblong them to get the hood to fit straight on the car.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-NSZWmSi5XUA/UDL8brqhYvI/AAAAAAAADcU/bx8zFlP2uTY/s800/2012-08-17_09-42-30_86.jpg

The next miracle is getting the bumper aligned to the fenders and the hood. The hood sits slightly higher on the passenger side where it meets the bumper. I'll cheat this with some spacer under the bumper to close the gap, but it still pisses me off.

Success. Finally got the gaps looking good. Quite the job when dealing with 3 different aftermarket manufacturers. (Shine, Tech2, and EVO-R Sleek headlights).

Sept 2012 - Blending fenders and bumper together
At this point I was not excited about how the fenders and bumper mated together. The FRP wanted to curl into the fender well. Not a clean snug fit no matter how much I played with it while maintaining gaps around the hood and headlights. Again maybe a 10ft view is fine but not good enough for me.
I made a video of the process of blending fiberglass (FRP) together:

Wow great job getting it lined up that good - in my experience NO carbon fiber or fiberglass pieces are really all that good or close of a fit lol. For hoods I have normally ended up tweaking the hinges on each side, then using the front corner bump stops adjusted and then hood pins to pull it onto them on each side to get things even close along the front and front of fenders... Sometimes even added side stops mid fender to pull it down onto and tweak/twist/force it into shape and alignment when closed. Don't think I have ever seen one straight and flat that just fit right without tons of hassle.

Jim, You couldn't be more correct. Whenever I hear other people with the same kit say the fitment is great, it's completely evident that they do not suffer from the same infliction as me where I see everything that isn't perfect and it bothers me till no end. That, or they just slap it on and send it to their autobody guy for him to deal with and fork over 3 or 4 times what they paid for the kit.

After a day of fighting the gaps, I measured them all with a micrometer and kept working it till I could have even gaps all around. Here's a pic of that progress. Note the lack of symmetry outside of the headlights where the fender and bumper meet. Another reason we blended it all together.
