i've been at tires plus for almost 4 years now this place has been starting to go down hill since the year after i started with management change. Ive been on and off looking for jobs but i have no idea what i want to tdo any more. All thru highschool i wanted to do anything automotive. and now 3 and ahalf years at this crap hole i'm starting to change my mind. I want to go back to school but at this point is not possible. Also i don't know what i would want to go to school for. Are there any suggestions on where i should be looking what i should be looking for. somethign to guide me and maybe make a career change? i'm not shure what i want to do but i need to get out of this place soon!

How old are you? Once you get old schooling gets cheap because your parents aren't expected to contribute.

Same with me, I went through high school wanting to work on cars. So I went to MATC to get the auto maintenance diploma, only to decide I wanted to make working on cars a hobby, not a career so I don't loose interest in it. Best idea for a job right now is to find something that can't be outsourced. This could be any kind of job from health care to garbage collection and anything in between. Good luck finding something... I'm looking too!

23 and you can't go to school? Ha!

I'm almost 25 and have been working 40 hours a week and going to school since I was 18. I wanted to drop out a lot of times, but every time I think about it, I just calculate how much money I am turning down. The difference in pay adds up to you being paid like $50 per hour of time you put into your education (class room time and study/hw time). Just don't pick the wrong major!

At age 24 your parents info is not need for fin aid.

Sounds like the first thing you need to do is figure out a career that interests you. Once you have that determined you need to come up with a plan and execute it. School can be worth going into debt for if it means you'll be making more money and doing something that you want to make a career out of or at the very least get you headed in that direction. People can suggest careers for you, but ultimately it has to be something you really want to do not something that will just make good money.

Hey what Tires Plus do you work at?

Feature Pony
02-09-2010, 11:31 AM
Tires Plus has been going down hill since morgan tire bought them out. I went from making $80,000 selling tires full time to $35000 once morgan tire cut all the commissions. I left that place, and glad I did. Check with the 128th for jobs, a lot of jobs you can out source into the real world and you get paid to go through basic and tech school.

I really don't see why you can't go to school. You can still work full time, just like I do. You get a huge tax deduction ($2500 for school alone per year). Your know your going to kick yourself for not going. Go to the work force development center at wctc and take a test to decide what field is best for you.

.... or just go to pc pro school, lol.

You said you didn't have the money to go to school...

just paid them off this year. any i don't make enough income to pay for school.

I do need a new Daily car tho mine is almost at the end of life as it were and would need to have a loan for that. So again i would be back to no money.

I don't think i have the mental capability to work at said shit hole and be able to get school work and studying done lol alot of crap been going on lately i may not even have a job soon.

Money is not an issue when it comes to school. Worst case, student loans are near interest free. Being burnt out is. If your laid off, its the best time to go back to school... just make sure your classes are after 5pm to retain UI.

Your making up excuses, if you really wanted to go to school you could sell you motorcycle and easily pay 2 years tuition at a tech school

the bike more then likely is going to be my main transportation coming soon. Boostt is makin this sound easier and easier. Not exactly shure if i'm going to be able to claim unimployment if i do get laid off. i've been puting my resume out there as is and maybe i can get a hit on one soon. If i switch jobs hopefully they would work with me if i look at going to school. Again i just need to find out what i want to do damn it lol

Student loans are nice but don't rely 100% on them as they will stack up very fast. They may be low interest but when you graduate it's a scary number to see.

I am on board with feature pony. The 128th Air Refueling Wing can help you. Youare young enough to go to basic training, and also pick a field that you want to do as apposed to the Active duty Air Force. After your technical military scholl, you work on weekend a month, two weeks a year. Plenty of time for a full time job on the side. Oh wait, did I mention that if you go to college it is 100 percent paid for. So no out of pocket expense and get paid to go to school. Sorry, did not mean to sound like a military recruiter ther, but from someone who has been there for eighteen years, I say it is worth looking into.

Once your parents' income doesn't come into play on your FAFSA (at the ripe age of 24) life in the student world becomes much more affordable. Since I was an only child and my parents barely grossed over $60k/year I wasn't eligible for much of anything except loans. You should be able to skirt the Z06 Corvette worth of student loans I acquired when going to school.

I suggest getting your ducks in a row so you're ready to go to school in a year. That means doing the FAFSA this year and next year.

In the meantime, I suggest researching what you want to do and be careful what you pick. Used to be that the medical field was a safe bet but not with SocialistCare around the corner. The first thing to get squeezed will be non-doctors in the workplace and you will see tremendous consolidation in the medical billing industry as well as see it moved offshore.

SOrry i'm confused i don't know what the FAFSA is? And wheres a good place to be researching about jobs i would be interested in. I mean i'm not one for working at a place i'm going to hate even tho i'll be rolling bank. i have to like what i'm doing to be able to work there and like i said before i usually gata be doing something or i get bored out of my mind.

thats why i said that, they've got alot of shit to fix. you have to sell cars to be busy and have broke ones to fix. people need money to fix and buy them which no one seems to have right now.
