The L61 is a pretty good little engine. Even when not taken care of they last forever.

i love my 2.2l its just an awesome little engine. i get about 42 mpg doing 65 heading up to green bay from okauchee. im sure the intake and header back help but even with out it i was averaging about 35. really easy to work on and the parts market is wide open.

It is light years ahead of the engine that it replaced (the 2.4 quad 4)

Not really...

I got as high as 37mpg with my Saturn L200 (largest saturn sedan, read Opel Vectra) powered by an ecotec 2.2. This was the first car to get the lotus desgined Ecotec in 00' Mine has 86k on it and i notice it uses a bit of oil between changes but it runs awesome and its kinda snotty for powering a bigger car with an automagic.

As far as the sunflower goes... well the engine will outlive the car lol

I've got the 2.2 in my S-10.
it's alittle under powered for the truck, but runs good & gets decent mileage (for a truck)

Yours has an LN2 pushrod 2.2. That hails from the ole tech-4 days yet.

I got a 02 cav with the ecotec in it. I got low miles on it but I have no complaints what so ever. best mpg i got was 40. Gm even makes a m62 s/c kit for it :)

Good luck

Im investigating my oil consumption issue right now, possibly an easy fix with cleaning a PCV port in the intake... Which after closer inspection there deff oil in the intake lol.

+1

I have the 2.2 Ecotec/5spd in my '03 Grand Am. Runs flawlessly. Obvious starter mods would be a header, unfortunately Pacesetter () is like the only one that makes them. They can handle boost, and N20 up to about 400hp at the flywheel according to GM.

Personally I feel a set of cams and some head porting would do nicely for the motor. And don't forget the tune...
