I've wanted one of these for awhile. After researching just had to make sure to get the right generation as the earlier ones had some issues. Couple of cool mods to do to it as well. Nothing big $ cause it's still just a .22 :) Since they are not making them anymore, I figured it would be cool to pick one up and found a great deal on it with some extras. I'm not the best shooter in the world. I'm just starting to have fun, so you can laugh at my shooting all you want, but I had a ton of fun :) haha

Would be nice once I get more accustomed to it and get it sighted in better. Has rear adjustable sight.

Couple options I'm gonna look into:

$50

$20

Red Dot

$33

Just some cheap fun toy. It's absolutely the best money I've spent. And it only cost like $10 to put 200 rounds through it, haha.

Seriously, I couldn't stop smiling. Plus it was cool that I can shoot it inside. Lot of people were interested to see what it was and how it shot when I was shooting. I just couldn't stop smiling, haha. Each mag is 22rd capacity so even if you take time it takes awhile to empty it.

I'll probably go tomorrow to shoot it too just cause it's so damn cheap, haha.

The only thing was I started shooting it after about 100rds through the XD9, so that might be a reason why alot of the shots are low, just couldn't hold it up anymore, haha.

ATI/GSG-5 SD. The sd is the one with the rubber front foregrip area and the larger fake suppressor on it. It's the one I wanted. The other ones look like this:

i could be wrong.

i was indoor at badger and that's what someone told me it was. maybe i misheard him.

there are two lines on the ground there. maybe it's 50ft and 100ft and not yards? i know the first line is way past what 2.5 basketball hoops would be.

can someone help me out?

Most indoor ranges are divided into three different distances: 7 yards, 15 yards, and 25 yards. I don't believe Badger is any different. (shrugs)

Yeah.... I think there is a [50] sign at badger. Thats the 50' mark.

So how many thugs were there shooting next to you...lol?

Where did you get the gun at and how much$?

Crawlin

Honestly, no thugs shooting. Plenty of people that LOOKED the part IN the showroom, but none shooting. Just an older gentleman shooting, as well as a father/son, and then two guys my age(late 20's looking)

Everytime I've been there, there hasn't been an issue with that type of shooting.

I've got my S&W 15-22 trigger just a tad over 2# pull, between the reseating of the barrel and a new Nikon scope I've been doing major damage to squirels out to 50+ yards!

Hard to beat 22's for fun, I'd rather punch cans at 40yards with it than 200 yard cans with a loud centerfire.

Sorry, missed the price thing...

Most online places are $479ish +ship/ffl

This version was $549.99 on some of the places.

So $549 incl extra clip and soft case.

Figure the others woulda been right around that same price, and i'm kinda one of those gotta have it now guys.

Although I am seriouslydebating giong to pick up that Sig522 at Shooter's Shop for $500 only because of how much fun I'm having shooting this thing.

Only downside. The Federal "Value" Pack .22LR that was suggested on the ar15.com site is really dirty compared to the CCI I shot yesterday. I had 4 FTF's tonight. I'll get pics and show you what they round looks like.

Russ Jerome

Any rimfire from any manufacture will have some early FTF's, dont sweat it. I had a couple during the first 333 value pack Feds but since breaking the action in (gets loosend up) I cant remember having a single FTF or FFF with the value pack. I can actualy shoot low velocity match ammo now without a hickup.

"Just got an M&P AR in 22LR traded in $399, save $100 off of new"

I get the same on some bulk packs..... especially the Federal 555 from Wally World.

After polishing up some of the action parts in my 10/22 I can cycle sub-sonics as fast as I can pull the trigger.

yeah, the CCI was AWESOME ammo. But we will just have to see what happens as we shoot more.

Badger is $15 to shoot pistol ammo weapons(and the .22). Everytime I've went, it was maybe 3 other people on the range, maybe 4 other lanes being used. Today it was ONLY me for the whole hour. 4pm-5pm

and just like everywhere else, like Qdoba and Cost Cutters, every 9 trips gets you a free trip.

When you go, there might be some "interesting" customers, but no one I feared for my life around.

Thanks to Lash for the correction on the distances. There is a small line at what appears to be 7ft, but they dont like you shooting any closer than the 25ft. Then there is another line at 50, and I guess the target ALL the way back against the backstop area might be 75ft, but seems a bit short in comparison.

Anyways, here's some targets from my quick session tonight when I went to pick up the optic rail. Adjusted the rear sight and now it's pretty damn deadly(well for a .22LR, haha). Again, this is iron sights, not the optic

That's some just generic info on what was happening and what ammo works well

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=41&t=244302

Some recommended cheap mods to do, but it also shows how to tell the differences in generations.

If you wanted one, I'd wait for the show coming to the Milwaukee sport complex next weekend. A buddy went to waukesha expo one and said he saw one of these for $300. Didn't know which gen.

They come in a variety of different kinds, but January 31 is the last day they can sell them or something like that. What the dealers have is what they have, cause HK sued them so they could bring out their own MP5 replicas in .22

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=41&t=237743

Picture thread. You can get one like mine with the fatter can that's called the SD model, or you can get one with a plastic forearm area and the thinner fake silencer. That's what you'll find the most of which is why I went for the one I bought.

The guys at Badger have a couple left, but they are a bit higher on price. Shooters Shop was WAY out of line at $649 which is why I wanted the sig522 from them.

Lash

I think Fletchers wanted around $550 for the one they had.

Crawlin
01-27-2010, 09:32 PM
I've really only found one downside....

And that is because it's SO cheap to shoot, and I've been having so much fun shooting it, my arms get SOOO tired holding the thing up. No resting it on a bench anywhere, haha. I literally can still feel it in my arms right now from the past two days. Probably at 400rds through it, give or take.

Dunhams on hwy100 has one, and it's 579 for the regular version, with the titanium upper for the anniversary edition. so it'd be the second gen for sure, but i don't like the looks of the silver, and people have said it wears off with cleaning.

Lash
01-27-2010, 09:36 PM

Badger has this one in stock I know since I saw it there. Just sucks they are so much higher than other places. Shooter's Shop had the regular one for the same price as online, but they just raised their prices on 'em to $649 and the used one to $479. And the used one is just a regular one.

I plan on hitting up that gun show next weekend, so maybe it will be there.

I did hear that H&K's are gonna be about $100 more than the GSG's. But I don't know specifics.

moels
02-01-2010, 06:38 PM
There's a gun shop over in Grafton that had it. It's the black, sorry for the crappy cell pic. I will be picking up the collapsable stock for sure, I don't think I like the folding at all.

Crawlin
02-01-2010, 06:44 PM
yeah, i didn't like it either. the collapsible is alot more comfortable than the regular stock(in my opinion).

If you check out the links I think I posted on this site earlier, there's a screw kit that's supposed to make teardown alot easier.

http://www.mygsg5.com/

keep an eye on the mags. Mine are pretty bad after firing so many rounds through it, and then the top part that pushes up on the round gets hung up on the dirt/grit. They are so easy to pull apart that it makes sense to clean them at the same time you clean the gun itself.

moels
02-01-2010, 06:47 PM
Thanks for the info on the mags, much appreciated. I took the stock off when I got it home and that bish was on there tight! lol. I am off tomorrow and Friday this week, so I may have to go play one of those days or both while the kids are in school. :)

Crawlin
02-01-2010, 08:21 PM
no prob... it literally is like 1 minute to take them apart, so it's just routine at this part. I've had a good number of FTF's at this point, so I really did a number on the cleaning. The bolt is still pretty gritty when you manually slide it back and forth, so I'll have to get to soaking that to clean it. Just don't want to stink up the house, haha.

I bought the GSG one. I've heard ups and downs about both. The classic army one with the extension part covering the ejection port when fully collapsed, but I don't know who shoots with a fully collapsed stock anyways so it might not be that big of a deal.

It does seem a little flimsy, and i heard the classic army one is all metal(is that right?).

I'm a "want it now" kinda person, so it's hard to decide what to do and they had this in stock, haha.
