I collected unemployment benefits for the first half of 2009. Is there a form that will be mailed to me showing how much I collected and how to add that income on my tax return (similar to a w2)? Or is there a number I need to contact to get that info?

you will get a form and unless you specified to withhold taxes you will have to pay.

Same here. I think it is a 1099 of 1098 form you get.

I just got mine a week or two ago. I'm not sure if you have to report it if it is under the threshold amount, but it can't hurt. If you received less than that amount it will be on file, but you won't pay anything on it. If you received long term disability you need to report that as well if you didn't have taxes withheld.

you can print your 1099-G form from the unemployment website.

weird, my state return went down when i put my amount in that was well under 2400?

I'm using tax act and you can go through each step and see how it affects your return.

I used taxact as well and my return wasn't affected by entering my little bit of unemployment. $700something I think it was.

I got my tax statement from them the other day too. I had no tax withheld and collected almost $17k in unemployment cause I've been laid off since the end of feb. Taxes are gonna kill me this year. At least at my last job I had an extra $50 per week taken out of my check for taxes. That should help a little at least.

Just finished my taxes, thanks for the link 88Nightmare (so I didn't have to wait to get it in the mail).

Feels good to be done! I've been using Turbo Tax for the past 3 years, always takes under 30 minutes. No more headaches or paperwork. Woot.

Look at the exact form as it is filling it out and see if everything is jiving.
