I bought this truck back in November and just haven't got around to putting up some pictures. It's a 2004 1500 Silverado 5.3L auto, Z71 w/4:11's and 57,000 on the clock. Only mods are a custom catback with a rotted out muffler, running boards, and the 285/75/16 BFG Mud Terrian's. Got a killer deal on it and could pass it up.

Nice truck. I bet it goes pretty good with the lightweight box and 4.10s, eh? Does it have the LM7 or L59? The L59s have nice injectors that work good with a wee bit of bottle. Never much cared for the front clip on the 03-07s, but the interior sure is nice on them. Does it have a grenade-lock in it? Are you going to put the electric fans out of a 05-07 in it?

very nice truck! easy to mod and fun too! cheaper route for the e-fans would be from an ls1 fbody. a full RP synthetic fluid change in the tcase, trans and diffs will show a decent increase in mpgs. Corvette servo in the trans, ebay cai and some tuning will have that thing barking the tires!

It is a very fun truck from 0-70 and then it dies off. I am not sure which if it is the LM7 or L59. How would I go about and find out which motor it is? What is the grenade-lock in? Electric fans are on the list of things to do.

Those are all mods that I am looking into doing but it already spins the tires pretty easy. Lets just say it gets sideways in a big hurry! :thumbsup

They're pretty much all like that. Probably is pretty much done once it gets near third gear right?

The RPO codes in the glovebox will tell you a lot. 8th digit will be a T for LM7 5.3L and Z for L59 (flexfuel) 5.3L.

Electric fans are a pretty easy thing to do on your truck, especially with someone around like Tom with hptuners. The truck fans are a lot nicer than the fourthgen fans.

No more belt noise but more exhaust noise.

Yep after second gear it realizes that it's a truck. The motor is a LM7 and I just might have to have Tom work his magic on it but it needs to stay on 87 octane. The best mileage I have got with it so far is 12 mpg and it would cost me an arm and a leg to fill it with 93 at 26 gallons. :rolf

And to the hemi comment, give me some time to play catch up and then both of my vehicles will be faster than yours.

Do you have a place to get cheap 89 octane? The LM7 responds pretty well with the 89 octane over 87. Don't get much out of 91 or 93, at least for the dollar.

89 is usually 10 cents more than 87 by me.

Yoo thanks for the links, I will have to check them out.

You will never get a full 26 gallons in that tank. my 06 with the 26 gal tank never took more then 23 at the pump, and I ran it low plenty of times.

FWIW 23 gal @ 2.69 = 61.87 for reg
23 gal @ 2.89 = 66.47 for premium

not that premium would help at all, but its only a $4.60 difference

that shit adds up though Mike. $4.60 a tank! I fill up sometimes 3 times a week and in a month that would kill me. Not sure how often he would fill up but over time, thats alot of money just for gas.

Between the 4:11's, the tires, and warming it up a little before I drive definately takes a toll on the mpg's. I am sure it will get better in the summer with warmer temps but I am not expecting a whole lot. If I am lucky I can get 300 miles out of a tank and that is running it down to empty. At 70 this truck is singing at around 2400 rpm's.

we drive ALOT and just barely get 300-310 miles to a full tank running it almost dead empty a few times too. weird because ours has 3.73's in it too.

G80- limited slip diff
Gt4 - 3.73 gears
G65 - LEVEL CONTROL MAN, SELF-ADJUSTING

Tom, I've read that alot of the trucks didnt come with the G80's.:confused

Percentage Difference:

[(a-b)/a] x 100 = Percentage Difference

Provided info: 87 is $2.69/gallon, 89 is $2.89/gallon, tank is 23 gallons.

Assumed info: 14 mpg on 87, 15.5 mpg on 89.

Math:

Percentage Difference in COST from 87 to 89 Octane.
[($2.89-$2.69)/$2.89] x 100 = 6.92%

Percentage Difference in Mileage from 87 to 89 Octane.
[(15.5-14)/15.5] x 100 = 9.67%

More Math:

23 gallons @ $2.89/ gallon yields 356.5 miles per tank.
23 gallons @ $2.69/ gallon yields 322.0 miles per tank.

356.5 – 322 = 34.5 miles

Yoo already did the cost per tank difference = $4.60

Conclusion:

You go 34.5 miles for $4.60 if you use Mid-Grade over 87 Octane.
It COST less to use Mid-Grade even though the PRICE is higher per gallon.

Provided your vehicles computer can add timing and take advantage of the higher octane, or you have your vehicle tuned for octane, you will benefit from using higher octane fuels.

Other things to note: Higher octane fuel burns cleaner which lends a hand for spark plug and catalytic converter life. Costing you less in the long run.

Cost vs. Price is house households get ahead.

In spring the mileage should get a little better. I've gotten over 400 mi out of a tank on my truck. Best of 19.7 mpg up north and back. BTW, I have 3.73's and and also revvin at about 2400 at 70.

I do agree, I have seen more miles per tank using mid grade over regular BUT not premium over mid grade. My point was about using premium vs reg/mid grade especially once tuned for reg/mid which is what mine was tuned for. IIRC, Tom was seeing over 20* of timing with no kr on regular grade. From that standpoint, I dont think the extra $$ is worth it for premium on a truck and if you can get it to run optimum with regular....why not? less money up front plus the same performance/longevity benefits in the long run.

Tom this truck does have the G80 limited slip. I think that all Z71's have the limited slip but I am not 100% sure. Sometime I should go through all the RPO's on the glove box and find out what they mean. I do know that the truck has 4:11's with the G80 limited slip.

My awesome Ram 1500 QC with 'Da HEMI' ( non-MDS) gets around 13 mpg mixed hwy/city in the winter....4WD and plowing my drive a factor. Goes up to around 15 in the summer. CAI's don't help MPG one bit....in fact it hurt it. The 295/75/17 didn't help either. Nitto Terra Grapplers weigh a f***ing TON. If I don't sell the truck I'm going back to Kumho M/T's. I loved those tires on my ZR2.

I had actually done the math, however the $2.89 is for premium. Typically, most gas stations I see have a $.10 difference per grade of gas.

Get a yank stall for it. It seriously changes the whole feel of the truck. Mine roll the 22s now. It never would before it. Also brake stands were unheard of with it until i got the converter. its 500 bones. Worth every single penny and it does not fall on its face anymore. Works fricken sweet for towing also.

How rpm is the stall? This thing has zero problems right now breaking the tires loose but we will see how it changes when it gets warmer. As far a towing I would like to see what it could do with a decent size load.
